I chose the old corner hardware store.

There used to be a great "old corner hardware store in Gahanna" called Shadwicks. They had everything somewhere in the store and the owner could always find it. Sadly they are now out of business. :(

In Lancaster we used to have Dannemiller's Hardware downtown years and years ago. It was the place to go. They were the hardware store, outdoor camping/sporting goods supply, and BMV/plate press/pick-up, plus they had a huge toy department on the second floor.

I used to save up my school lunch & milk money, then stop at Dannemiller's on the walk home from school every time I had $3 to buy a GI Joe. At least, I did if I hadn't already spent all my money at the SmokeStack Hobby Shop on those little rubber band wind-up balsa wood airplanes, or at the Kresgees Drug Store for ice cream at the old fashioned soda fountain. :tongue2:

Copperhead snake bites worker at home improvement store

A poisonous snake in a tree in the gardening department has bitten an employee at a home improvement store in North Carolina.

The East Lincoln Fire Department said in a Facebook post that officers were called to a Lowe's Home Improvement store Monday about 25 miles northwest of Charlotte.

Authorities said a copperhead in a tree at the store bit the employee, who was taken to a hospital. The worker's name and condition were not available.

The fire department warned in its post that people should be careful when shopping for trees, noting snakes could be found in any store that sells trees.

I remember that place, (there was an alley in between them but) it was on Main St. beside the Lyric (i.e movie theater).

I went in for Gorilla Glue a couple of weeks ago, and was greeted by 3 employees separately, all of whom asked if they could help me. The first told me the exact aisle and everything. I had to tell the next two that I was already instructed by the first. I found it so quickly I decided to do some perusing, and another 2 workers asked if they could help. Ha.

Anyway, they close at 6pm, and don't open Sundays. And since I tend to procrastinate, I usually end up going to Lowe's; they ARE open on Sundays.

Being asked five times by five different people if I need help finding anything is exactly why I don't ever walk into a Best Buy anymore, unless it's my absolute last resort and I can't wait three days for delivery. Between being pestered by the sales staff, the anti-theft devices that completely cage the packages so you can't read anything on a box, and the minimalist packing design that doesn't even explain what is in boxes by some manufacturers, simply going to the store to "browse" is a thing of the past.

Normally, I'd agree with you. Let me check stuff out in peace, won't you? But, hey, where'd you go? I need to look at whatever this stupid thing is and it's locked.
I guess my experience at this hardware store was different. I was in a different mood, maybe. Or I knew that they weren't going to be pushy, or something. I don't know. But I go there whenever I can - which isn't often enough.

This article says it was a customer, not an employee that got bit...can you see a lawsuit coming here?

Right now, I go to Home Depot more often because it is closer. There is a True Value or Ace or something hardware store even closer, but I have not checked it out. I find the service at these places to be hit or miss, although the Home Depot by me tries very hard to be service oriented.

We have two independently owned HW stores in town. Both Ace I think... Don't really know. All I know is that I go to either of them before I go to HD or Lowes. Like to support local merchants even if they have a national brand on their store front.

But yeah... can't get three feet into the store without someone asking me if I need help. Most of the time I don't... but some times I really just don't want to hunt and I appreciate their help. Super friendly and good peeps.
