Los Angeles Lakers (17x NBA Champions)

They’re getting outscored 24-2, just 6 minutes into the 3rd quarter.
I had a hunch that having Melo play for Dwight was going to end poorly, but I wasn't expecting THAT!

At least we got this gem of a tweet from it:

Los Angeles Lakers eliminated from playoff contention after 7th straight loss: 'We had more starting lineups than wins'

"This year, we had more starting lineups than wins," Davis said, matter-of-factly.

Yeah, in spite of having 5 guys (James, Westbrook, Davis, Anthony, and Howard) that are (probably) future NBA Hall Of Famers, the Lakers were pretty much a "dumpster fire" the whole season:

Yeah, I know Anthony and Howard are "over the hill" and (maybe) should have already retired.

I wonder if Lebron can cancel the rest of his contract for a buyout? That team is screwed for the rest of his viable career and nobody is going to trade them the value that they would require to move him. That's assuming anyone else would want to pay his huge contract in a trade. He has the money so he'd be better off taking the MLE for as long as he can play to go title chasing. Hell if he would come back to the Cavs without having to give anything up they could be hunting titles for the rest of his career and he wouldn't have to play 40 minutes a game.

Maybe LeBron will get it this time.. 2nd time he thought building a team of his buddies years after their prime (albeit very well known names) and well on their declines are not going anywhere...

Lakers only shot for next year:
- jettison Westbrook somehow; he's just awful and not at all what this team needs
- get Lebron and AD to take salary cuts so they can get a good guard (someone Jrue Holiday-like)
- dump some of Lebron's cronies and get a couple of role players (3+D)
- pray AD is healthy come playoff time

BTW - I don't actually think any of these things will happen.

Yep this team is screwed for years. Nobody will take Westbrook's contract and they don't have any picks to throw in to sweeten the pot. He knows he won't get more money anywhere else so they are stuck with him. If the Lakers would give it to him Lebron could take a buyout for $0 to get the Lakers out from under his contract, but I can't see them giving it to him since cap space means nothing when you lose one of your top 2 players. Any trade for him would have to include picks and return salary that I don't think anyone would be willing to pay. If the Cavs really wanted him back they do have Love's giant contract, which gets them most of the way to Lebron, but I can't see them giving up any good young talent or a bunch of first rounders for Lebron at this point. I guess if you traded Love and Cedi or Sexton for Lebron this team would be picking at the bottom of the first round for years so those picks don't have much value, but I'm sure the Lakers would want more than I would be willing to give up. I guess the only way around it would be if Lebron threatened to retire if he isn't bought out or traded to the a certain team or two so I guess he isn't without leverage. If he retires they get nothing.

Not like LeBron needs money.. so he himself could make things very interesting...
There are only 2 things in his purview.. chance for another ring and play with Bronny
everything else is moot

Los Angeles Lakers fire Frank Vogel after disappointing 33-49 season, plan 'methodical' search for new HC

The Los Angeles Lakers fired Frank Vogel on Monday, choosing their title-winning head coach to take the fall for one of the most disappointing seasons in NBA history.

Vogel was under contract through next season, but almost nothing has gone right over the past two seasons for the rosters assembled by vice president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka and coached by Vogel, who went 127-98 in his three seasons running the club.

Pelinka declined to elaborate Monday on why he and owner Jeanie Buss felt Vogel needed to be fired.

No surprise here, you knew that was coming.
