Looking Forward - Making the BP Mock Draft Easier

Watson, Crick & A Twist

Just nearing the final few weeks of the Pro season, all the college games are done.

My mind moves forward in planning mode - to the BP Mock Draft.

That was fun last year - and there was some discussion near the end of how to improve the working of the process.

I cannot remember all the ideas that were proposed but here is what I do recall being suggested:

Have more than one "Paul Tagliabue" - after all even Paul gets a break after the 1st couple of rounds in real life.

Make a short list of selections for your drafting position (e.g. 3rd pick 1st round). Say 3 players for that pick point. That way if your pick goes your backup pick is loaded and ready to rumble. PM that list to Commish and his back-up.

(If we were to use that short-list method then you could also set a time limit for all picks in that round to be PM'd in - The commish then feeds them out and wrangles any issues with all 3 candidates gone from the pick list as the round progresses).

OK - short list of potential improvements I recall.

Any thoughts from others would be welcomed.

Hmmm, I missed last year's. I'd be interested in participating in this year's.

Edit: I'll take the Browns. I can't believe I forgot to put that. If it's too late, then oh well.

I think a clock would be good. There are several different ways it can be run, and I'm sure someone will have an epiphany. Delays in picks seemed to be the biggest frustration last year.

One more notionb - that's a bargain notion - prompted in part by feeling bad about all this early pre-emptive team adoption. There are more fans of each and every team in the NFL on here than there are teams in the NFL. What about forming a group for each team? It'd take a little organization, but I think we could get that done "off-board" in PMs. Then a designated rep of the group submits the pick list.

Good Idea

Bad Idea

Unworkable if you have the Cardinals? Sorry starBUCKS - couldn't resist.
