Look Who's Transferring Now (The Portal)

How does that work? Aren't the academy student athletes obligated to service later?

Didn't we get Schlegel from Air Force?
Apparently there's no commitment until 3rd year, at which point they also get a decent bonus to stick around.

But Springer is a grad transfer, which means he will graduate. A lot of mids are allowed to defer service for grad school... usually this is reserved for "elite" Tech schools, primarily MIT and JHU.
But in the last year they changed rules to allow service academy players to enter draft and play w/o limitations ... in that spirit, I imagine they're allowing him to defer service under the same Grad school rules... and maybe revisit the draft topic a year from now.

yes, Schlegel was at Air Force for 2 years I believe.

Also looks like Air Force has 7 players in the transfer portal right now. So not rare apparently.

From the article:
As we’ve stated myriad times in the past, a player can remove his name from the portal and remain at the same school. At this point, though, other programs are permitted to contact Ward without receiving permission from the Indiana football program.

Why the fuck would a GASO player be governed by Indiana?

Lazy cut and paste at NBC.
