Lombardi award semifinalists

Plus the fact that he still excels on the top rushing defense in the country which has other NFL caliber players, rather than being the sole star on a defense like several other sem-finalists.

Good point. I definitely think A.J. deserves it, but I wonder if some of the voters will be so in love with Dumervil's stats (against C-USA opponents, I might add) that they'll give him the nod instead.

AJ was also named a Butkus Award semifinalist today, along with <!--StartFragment -->Chad Greenway - Iowa, Aaron Harris - Texas, Spencer Havner - UCLA, D'Qwell Jackson - Maryland, Tim McGarigle - Northwestern, AJ Nicholson - Florida State, Paul Posluszny - Penn State, DeMeco Ryans - Alabama, and Ernie Sims - Florida State.

AJ may have the Butkis all but wrapped up. Posluszny has more takles, but AJ makes more negative plays and has Carpenter on the other side (I'm surprised he doesn't make the list). I'd be shocked if AJ doesn't get the Butkis if he keeps playing this way.

The voters will remember AJ Hawk's game against Texas, but I think they will also remember Dumervil's 6-sack performance against Louisville's main rival Kentucky.

Kiwanuka may suffer some in the eyes of the writers due to missed games. As I recall, he was the DE taken out by the cheapshot from the UVA lineman. He missed the rest of that game and did not play last week against WFU. BC doesn't have a game until 10/27 against Va Tech, so hopefully, he won't miss anymore time.

Football: Recognition continues to come in for OSU linebacker A. J. Hawk.
Hawk has been named as one of four finalist for the Lombardi Award. The four selected in a nation-wide vote are Hawk, Louisville's Elvis Dumervil, who leads the nation with 20 sacks, Rod Wright of the University of Texas, and Paul Posluszny of Penn State.
