Lets show the nation our class!

Here's a request for all those lucky enough to see home Buckeye games. The nation will be watching and listening, lets not Boo our QB or team! Lets show visiting fans how the Buckeyes party and are good hosts! I wish I could be there, I can't so it's up to you guys!

I agree, but I have to say that Buckeye fans are already much better than Cleveland fans. I've lived in Columbus for 21 years and now Cleveland for the last 12 (can you guess how old I am???). Not to say that Cleveland fans are bad, but it really jumped out at me how quickly they (we) turn on our players.

In 1999, I was at a Tribe game when Jarret Wright was pitching. He struggled the year before, but had started this season 5-1 on the year. He gave up 4 runs in the first 3 innings, and he was being booed.

This last Friday, I was at the Browns preseason game. Doug Johnson was getting booed off of the field because he threw the ball away to avoid a sack! I couldn't believe it. Granted, everyone in the stadium wanted to see Frye, but that was uncalled for.

Then there's the Tim Couch injury cheer. argh.

and the beer bottles...which was kind of funny.

Anyways, I'm not even a believer of booing the opposing team when they take the field (yes, even Michigan). These are kids playing football because they enjoy it. I don't really think any of them deserve to be booed by thousands of people. Professionals (coaches, refs, NFL players,...) are a little different story, but I still think Cleveland should tone it down a bit.

Sorry to take this off track, but I think Columbus fans should be commended for their general good sportsmanship already. Bellisari, Bollman, and even Cooper were treated with more respect than they would have in many other cities. I'm confident that Buckeye fans will make a good showing.

That being said, I hope we don't completely forgive and forget ESPN before the 10th. :)

They are, and I'm not excusing booing Pro's... but I remember that feeling I had down deep in my stomach at a game whent the crowd started booing Stanley Jackson... on a lot of levels... that was absolutely uncalled for... as it is to boo any collegiate athlete who is performing to the best of their abilities... absolutely disgraceful... and that hasn't been the only time.

(As an aside, I personally was relieved at the end of the '97 scUM game because it was the end of the Stanley Jackson era, I never thought he was a very good player, I'll be honest... but I would never boo him, any more than I would question his dedication to the team or his loyalty to Ohio State.)

Yertle,

I'm with you on not booing the other team as they limp on to the field in awe. I've always thought it would be cool to go to dead silence. I know it will never happen but that would be intimidating as hell.
Yeah! Kind of like NOBODY showing up to the Gameday set. No offense to Herbie and Corso and Fowler (those three kick butt), but ESPN still sucks ass, and nothing would make that statement better than tumbleweed blowing by at 10:30 am on the 10th.

You know in view of recent events I think the best way to show our class is to have a big fat check sent to the stage in the name of Buckeye Fans everywhere -- to support those who were hurt or made homeless by the recent Hurricane.

Yeah, I guess that would one-up my idea.

I don't like booing at the 'Shoe, ever. The only exception is if a ref makes a bad call. Unlike some others, I will boo scUM as they take the field, but that can't be stopped...I've tried. Seriously, I can't stand it when OSU players or coaches are booed in their own stadium. There is no excuse for that.

Being a clevelander, I can look at this from a different angle than yertle ... I'd say without a doubt that the fans in columbus are atrocious compared to cleveland fans, primarily because a number of buckeye fans in columbus don't realize that the buckeyes are a NOT a pro football team. It's one thing to take your football seriously and bleed scarlet and gray, and then it's another boo and rip college kids. The thing that some "buckeye fans" don't realize is that the kids that are out there playing in the horseshoe probably love ohio state football more than them. On the other hand, judging from the loyalty we have seen from players and owners associated with pro sports in cleveland recently, the situation in cleveland is the exact opposite ... the fans love the team WAY more than the players ... who really don't seem to give two shits about the city or the fans, who pretty much pay their salaries. That's the difference between the browns and the buckeyes, and that's why it's absolutely DISGUSTING when buckeye fans boo the players and partially justified when browns fans boo the pros.

that would be pretty bad ass. We need to get that started as a new tradition at "The Shoe"
