Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

Count me as somebody that would prefer a root canal to the hour-long show on ESPN for the decision.

Like those of us not watching won't be able to find out 30 seconds after it's officially announced.

1.) Everyone wants to know where LBJ is going to play next year and he is capitalizing on that fact, good for him
2.) What else was going to be on ESPN on a Thursday in early July, poker?
3.) Charity gets the proceeds
4.) If you get ESPN in your channel lineup, you probably get at least 65 other channels that you can turn to if you don't want to watch

Who loses in this scenario?

Not a good feeling as a Cavs fan...he'd be announcing his decesion in Akron/Cleveland if he were going to pick the Cavs. It'd be a celebration all night with teammates, friends, locals...

He can't announce for another team in front of the locals either because it wouldn't be positive feedback at all. Announcing at Bristol allows him to keep the suspense high, and do it as "classy" as possible at this point. My guess is the Knicks or Nets. I don't know if it was ever confirmed but Maverick Carter and Randy Mims were alledgedly in New York today meeting with the Knicks (via Truehoop). My guess is he'll spend a majority of the day with the Knicks/Nets, make the short ride to Bristol, and announce for whichever team he has decided on. The advertising dollars going to charity is a nice touch, b/c it's tough to rip the "divaness" of this public announcement when it's going to generate hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Boys and Girls club.

No way in hell he signs with the Nets, I can guarantee that.

I'm not buying all of the talk about Miami, even though it would be pretty cool to see Lebron/Bosh/Wade play together. I just don't think Lebron's ego could stand having to share the spotlight with Wade, and to a slightly lesser extent, Bosh. Especially considering it was Wade's team to begin with, and he's already won a title there.

Don't think Chicago is going to happen either, not a whole lot of an argument just my instinct. I really think he stays in Cleveland, I think if he were to go somewhere else he would have done so without all the fanfare. I seriously think hes doing all of this to make Cleveland fall in love with him all over again, and to make the city appreciate him. The arrogance is pretty sickening, but what can you do.

i dont care what kind of spin lebron and his posse try to put on this press confrence, if your going to leave cleveland do you really have to do it on national television with everyone watching? you couldnt just say thursday sometime in the afternoon via fax or whatever that your playing for the knicks? to me, if he leaves cleveland in this manner he has now somehow double the shitstorm he was in for already

from Cleveland fans who will hate on him anyways...nationally, the play to take ad dollars and turn it into charity earns him a lot of good publicity. Had he not gone that route, he's just a diva wanting mass exposure...

The decesion not to hold this from home state Ohio, speaks volumes to me....this is the same guy who accepts his MVP award in Akron every year. I doubt it gets reported tomorrow, because ESPN will want as much suspense tomorrow as possible, but I think he's spending the day with the Knicks or Nets before heading to Bristol for the show.

Fax? Why not just send a smoke signal in ESPN's direction.
