LB Tommy ‘Two Thumbs’ Eichenberg (Rose Bowl Def MVP, All B1G, All-American, Las Vegas Raiders)

He played a hell of a game. Even the passing TD he gave up he was in good position.

When I saw that I was so pissed off at the coaches, thinking here we are a year later and we have a Mike LB getting beat for a TD again. Not one ounce of frustration with the player. He did it as well as anyone could have possibly asked.

That play though cemented my opinion that Knowles can fire everybody on that saide of the ball, and I do mean everybody, and I wouldn't care.

That big fucking it on the sidelines seemed to wake everyone up on the defense.

I watched the game again today and I seriously feel like it might be Chambers, Ike and Stover next year and they'll play well as long as they aren't covering backs and WRs downfield. They attacked gaps more in that second half than I've seen the rest of the year combined. Something might just be there.

Yeah, he really stood out on a defense that gave up 35 points.

Every so often you get that true Freshman that makes a real impact. I'm anxious to see what Powers and/or Hicks can do next year too.

As great of a game Tommy had, I'm going to pump the brakes on his future. OSU played a team that fit his strength as a run stopper. Tommy to me, is still not much different than Borland. He will play great against a Utah, MSU, scUM, Wisky, but a team that will spread the ball out in space, he will get exposed. Great game in the Rose Bowl, but I wonder how a 2nd year from Chambers, and a full off season at LB with Stover changes some things. Not to mention the frosh LBs coming in.

Everything I've read about Knowles is that he hard schemes every week how best to attack [yes, attack :) ] that game's opponent. I don't see the problem with coaching every fucking LB to be a starter and then starting the right ones for a particular week.

Fully agreed. And I think we have the versatile LBs to fit those schemes

I think I'm lying even typing this, but I think I'd rather have less playing time than play against an offensive scheme in which I'd be a liability.

I hear you, but all players can't play against all offenses. Some guys can't play against spread teams, and some guys are better suited to play against run oriented teams. Even as good as a Chris Spielman was, he was perfect for an era where teams were 90% run. He would be at a disadvantage having to guard a RB, TE or even slot WR up the field in space. That's where I see Tommy. No slight, but players need to be used to their strengths
