Clemson hanging tough with McMillan
By Phil Kornblut
LB Raekwon McMillan of Hinesville, GA plans to narrow his list to a top five this summer and announce a decision at the Under Armour Game in January. Coaches from Clemson, Alabama and Ohio State have been by to see him this spring. Clemson recruiter Brent Venables has the Tigers very much in the mix. "I've built a great relationship with coach Venables," McMillan said. "He's one of the coach I talk to all the time. He's telling me that if I came there there would be a great chance to play a lot at mike linebacker. He's really aggressive and likes to send his linebackers on blitzes and get to the quarterback." McMillan's only visit this spring was to Georgia for the spring game. He will visit more places this summer and then come out with a top five. "Clemson is in pretty good shape," he said. McMillan said he talks the most with Clemson, Ohio State and Alabama.

HINESVILLE, Ga. - As the nation's top ranked linebacker, Hinesville (Ga.) Liberty County product Raekwon McMillan can have his pick of just about any school in the country. During the spring evaluation period, college coaches have flocked to Liberty County High School to check on McMillan but the 6-foot-2, 241-pound prospect has been putting his team ahead of his recruiting during the spring as he tries to prepare his squad for a big 2013 season.
"I've just kind of set my recruiting to the side a little bit to give my teammates the time that they deserve during spring ball," said McMillan. "I know that if I am just dedicating myself to recruiting that we're not going to have a great season."
With so many offers and a bright college future ahead, it would be easy for McMillan to pace himself during his senior season and take things a little easier on the field this fall but he is doing quite the opposite.
"Last year I wasn't full-time running back but this year I'm going to be full-time running back and linebacker," McMillan explained. "Playing both sides of the ball is going to be a real challenge this year."
Of all the head coaches recruiting me, I'd say Urban Meyer is probably the funniest.
He calls me "Bubble." That's because he said I have a linebacker butt. I have a wide butt with a great leg base.
Every time we talk, he calls me that.
He says all great athletes have huge butts and great strength bases there. He was telling me about guys like Tim Tebow, Brandon Spikes and Percy Harvin. Guys like that. He said they were built the same way.
That's a great comparison. I just hope I can pan out like that.
I don't have a nickname for Coach Meyer yet. I've got to think of one.
He's a people person. He definitely knows what he's doing when it comes to recruiting.
