LB Larry Grant (Official Thread)

Ron Springs came out of Coffeyville in Kansas.

Chris Vance was in Tressel's first class, but he was already enrolled by the time Tressel was hired.

Tressel signed several JUCOs in his time at YSU, so him targeting Grant is not without precedent.

You're right about Vance. I remember a story about Tressel bumping into Gary Barnett at some off-season meeting while he was still at YSU. Barnett told Tressel he was bummed out because he had just lost out on a JUCO WR to OSU. Tressel said he thought to himself that he was happy to hear about OSU winning a recruiting battle because he always pulled for Ohio schools.

I think Coop brought a guy in from San Francisco JC or CC...whatever the official name is. Could be wrong but there was a D. Tackle named Paul Breed that I thought was from there. Big kid but got kicked off team for off field incident.

I think he is kind of a wait and see thing, but I think if the staff eventually brings him in for a visit he will become a buckeye. I think there is a lot more that goes into gettin a juco than a regular high schooler, b/c you know they will only be there for 2 years and will need production fast.

Chris Vance was really a Cooper recruit. He enrolled in January of 2001, which meant he would've been here a couple days before Coach Tressel took over. Coop was fired the first day of winter quarter and Tress was here about 10 days later.

Jack Tucker was a 2000 Cooper recruit from Cerritos CC in California.

I would say the only true JUCO recruit for Tressel was LeAndre Boone from Virginia. He didn't qualify coming out of HS, spent one year at FUMA, then committed to Ohio State real late in the year, it was in the summer of 2001. He enrolled a month later and was on the team for two years, transferring after 02 I believe.

Larry is waiting to hear from the coaches about being allowed to visit this weekend. They have his transcripts, and if everything checks out, he will visit. tOSU and Texas A&M are his two choices. He visited TAMU 11/18.

Larry sounds VERY interested in attending tOSU...

If hes allowed to visit he has to be a Buckeye... He already visited TAMU obviously, so the only thing standing in his way is his transcripts.

The front page of Bnuts is saying if this weekend visit goes well he will commit.
The front page says this:
There has been plenty of talk over the past couple of days about the possibility of Ohio State landing five-star JUCO linebacker Larry Grant of CC of San Francisco. Grant previously committed to Florida and was hoping to have signed with the Gators by now, but he lacked one class required to meet SEC requirements. Could Florida's loss become Ohio State's gain?
The commit if all goes well line you cite surely centers on the need for Grant's transcript to pass muster with Ohio State.
