LB Eric Schwartz (Walk-on)

Bill Kurelic - 11/08/05

Eric will make an unofficial visit to Ohio State this weekend for the Northwestern game; Ohio State (not offered) is his favorite, followed by Miami, Cincinnati, Northwestern, Akron, and Bowling Green (none offered).

On the season, Schwartz has approximately 100 tackles and 4 sacks in 8 games.

Personal take: At 6' 0", 227 lbs, with 4.7+ speed, I would imagine that Ohio State is considering Eric for fullback, not linebacker.

That is my take as well, you never know tho, that is what we all thought about Hawk as well.

I really like Schwartz. He has nice size, and displayed good speed and one on one skills at a ton of camps this summer. W/O the report of an offer up to this point he is probably the most underrated recruit in Ohio. A big plus with Eric is that he is already qualified and a great student. He should definitely be getting some looks from the upper tier academic schools.

Fwiw...
Sparq Ratings from Nike Camps:

Navarro Bowman--64.43
Robert Rose--66.71
AJ Jones--71.29
Adrian Motten--66.82
Dustin Jefferson--63.34
Raymond Small--71.49
David Ausberry--67.42
Greg Matthews--52.18

Eric Schwartz--70.52

With all the academic casulties at the LB position this year it's looking like Schwartz will get that offer as a Plan B recruit. AJ Hawk comes to mind when you think of this kid. He has made the grades and wants to be a Buck. I have no problem with him coming on board.

No offense to this kid, but he's NOT AJ Hawk! AJ was offered in the summer of his senior year, runs a 4.5 40, and played against top competition in HS. I'm sure this kid is a nice player, but I wish everyone would stop comparing every "slow", "under-rated" linebacker to AJ Hawk, who not only is a great football player, but a physical freak.

My bad Westbuck...I didn't follow recruiting too closely back in 01. He definitely doesn't have the speed AJ had coming out of High School. Eric seems like a blue collar type player along with Homan that will remind us of AJ in a couple of years...I really doubt Eric would play to the potential of AJ in his freshman year, but one can only dream!

Here's the easy way to know if a kid will make it OSU or not...does he get an offer.

This staff has shown nothing but excellence when it comes to evaluating and recruiting talented football players. I have absolute faith in their judgement so it makes recruting pretty enjoyable for me as compared to the Coop years.

If this staff wants a kid he's a player, if they pass he's either not a player(OSU level that is) or he has baggage be it academic or otherwise.

I'm not saying they get whoever they want, no one does, I'm just saying if they offer a kid feel good about it, if they don't offer don't worry about it.

I went to the Shawnee vs. Clyde game last night and Clyde won 7-0. To be honest I really wasn't very impressed. I didn't hear his name hardly at all last night. However teammate Matt Guhn(commited to Michigan for wrestling) was very impressive and has good speed for being so big.
