  • Camren Williams is the son of former NFL player Brent Williams and the brother of NFL rookie Brennan Williams of the Houston Texans. He came to Ohio State from suburban Boston along with his best friend, Armani Reeves, as part of coach Urban Meyer’s first recruiting class. A key special-teams player, Williams has seen more action at linebacker recently because of injuries at that position.


    Question: What was it like growing up as the son of an NFL player?

    Answer: It was definitely different. I definitely learned a ton from him. He always had higher expectations for me. When he was coaching me, he looked at me like an NFL prospect, like, ‘This is what guys do in the NFL.’ When people were watching me, they were expecting me to be as good as my dad. Always being compared to my dad, that was definitely something that pushed me. It was tough at times, but I think it worked out.

And Chad Hagan, Luke Roberts, Reggie Smith, Brandon Smith, Connor Crowell, Curtis Terry...sure wouldn't have wanted to miss out on them for any 4* scrubs like Marcus Freeman, Bobby Carpenter, Ross Homan, Thaddeus Gibson, Brian Rolle, Andrew Sweat, and Ryan Shazier with their fancy ratings at LB.

Add Lil Animal as a Sophomore to this years defense and the ordinary becomes Good..Probably great. Lil Animal would get us lined up right first and second he would encourage his teammates to DO THEIR JOB, not 2 out of 3 plays but every play. Shazier and the d-Line would benifit the most knowing Animal has their back and would stop the run.

From the Toledo Blade's Dave Briggs:

"This is what you come here to do. This is Ohio State. I didn't expect to come here and just have a bunch of no names behind me. I expected the Curtis Grants and Raekwon McMillans and Joshua Perrys and those guys. That's why I came here. It’s a great experience."

That's the right attitude you want from a player, and a lot of his sense could come from his dad, Brent Williams, who played at Toledo and did 11 years in the NFL.

"You have to get out of your own way," Brent said. "You start over thinking everything. I started my freshman year midway through the season at nose tackle, then they moved me back out to defensive end. I was a backup and you’re wondering, ‘What did I do wrong at the other spot?’ The thing I told [Camren] is that your experience is valuable to the program.

"Those challenges that you're facing, they're normal. Kids in this generation, this microwave generation, they expect to come out of high school and play right away in the Big Ten and never miss a beat. That’s not how it is."

If only every player (or everyone, actually) had a dad as sensible as Brent Williams, things would be a lot easier.

Him and Booker both didn't set the edge very well, which allowed Barkley to bounce his runs outside a lot for big yards. That's the difference between a senior starter and backups I guess though.

I was disappointed with the targeting foul and was surprised to see how many people thought that was BS. Looked like a textbook case to me. Just forget about the concussion stuff for a moment - you could fuck up your neck dropping your head and going into a guy like that. See what you hit - he didn't

I was in row 1 of C-deck in the corner closet to where it occurred. I saw the play live and 1 replay on the big screen. Count me in that group, I was yelling BS too.

Me too. I thought the intent of that Targeting foul was to eliminate the guys who launched themselves at defenseless receivers and QBs, not to eject guys tackling the ball carrier. I mean crap if they call that everytime a defender tackles a RB and makes contact with their helmet, we'd have guys ejected every game. I understand that he made helmet to helmet to contact, but there didn't appear to be any intent to hurt the guy. I don't know...

Yes, that was the original intent, but now it seems the intent of the rule has been expanded to protect the tackler. Need to coach proper tackling technique. To me, that doens't look like malicious targeting, neither did the ttun hit look like targeting (late hit, but not targeting). It's even more confusing, because players are taught to try to use the crown of their helmet try to knock the ball out when they can, which is what it looked like Cam was doing. Every time someone knocks the ball out with their helmet it could be a targeting call.
