LB Bobby Carpenter (All B1G, National Champion)

"What I make it sound like?" Are you serious? I said he "threw a punch" and he did. "Pretty blatent" was in reference to the fact it was pretty much on the top of the pile for all to see. So what did I "make it sound like?"

Yes, I'm serious (serious enough that a senior moderator PM'd me about it and asked to me check the play). Whether or not it was your intention, it sounded like Carpenter brazenly threw an unprovoked haymaker at someone, when it was hardly the case. Carp was on his back and the OL was still after him when Carp jabbed the guy. When you say someone "threw a punch" without any further explanation, it makes the guy throwing the punch look guilty...

That's how I read it as well. Thanks for checking, Mili.

For any doubters, I made a clip of the play (the audio didn't come out for some reason...stinkin' freeware  ). You can clearly see Carp come into the play from the lower right, and get pushed into the pile by #74 who then pushes him again once he's down on the pile. All Carp did was give him a "Knock that shit off" pop right back...

Wow, that wasn't the intention at all. I guess it didn't come off like that to me because I just got done watching it and knowing the severity of the actions. I apologize if that was the case, but I dont see how anyone can throw any sort of "haymaker" or anything close to the sort in the pile really. Again, my apologies.

I don't really see any harm in the "punch." The Michigan State player fell on him, and Carp's first and natural instinct was to tell him to get the hell off of him. It definitely wasn't a big deal, and I'm sure that Carp would tell you if he was asked about the punch that it happens all of the time in games, in piles such as that.

The Michigan State player intentionally fell on him, Carpenter gave him the "get the hell off of me" jab, and the State player gave another little shove for good measure.

No probs, bro. Just being protective of our alumni players. :wink2:

Roundup: Cowboys reach agreement with CarpenterESPN.com news services

The Dallas Cowboys completed their draft choice signings by striking an early Friday agreement with first-round selection Bobby Carpenter of Ohio State.

The 18th player chosen overall, Carpenter will sign a five-year contract with a maximum value of $11 million, including $7.5 million in guarantees.

A tall, athletic linebacker (6-foot-2, 256 pounds), Carpenter possesses the kind of size head coach Bill Parcells has long favored at the position. He is the son of former New York Giants and Houston Oilers running back Rob Carpenter, grew up around the game, and has a strong sense of the league.

A starter in 26 of his 50 appearances for the Buckeyes, Carpenter finished his college career with 191 tackles, including 23½ tackles for losses, 14½ sacks, three interceptions, seven passes defensed, two forced fumbles and two recoveries.

Not surprisingly, given his bloodlines, Carpenter is an instinctive player with good diagnostic skills. Although the Cowboys have retooled their linebacker corps over the past two seasons as they continue to transition to a 3-4 defense, Carpenter should vie for playing time as a rookie.

Assuming 10% goes to his agent, that's $1.35 mil a year guaranteed (before taxes).
After following the Buckeyes LBs last year, I am super psyched to have this guy on the Cowboys, and he seems to be in line to be a Parcells guy, which exceedingly helps his chances of PT soon and often. Welcome to America's team Carp!

Is Carp a good media guy? The Ticket (local "sports talk" station) will love that kid if he is.

Honestly because of the system and how hard Parcells will push him (and his pedigree), I wouldn't be surprised to see Bobby make All-Pro at or before AJ does. His upside (if he stays healthy) is virtually limitless.
