LB Bobby Carpenter (All B1G, National Champion)

Some of the locals around Lancaster describe him the same way. I've even heard some wish a bad draft status on him b/c the y disliked him so much b/c of his cockiness and arroganance growing up in Lancaster. Cocky or not, I thought he represented tOSU well, and the guy makes plays...period.

The only cockiness I saw out of him is that he expected everyone on the team to work as hard as he did, he was extremely intense...a lot of people didn't like to hang out with him because of the intensity...it's not like this is a secret though, just watch the way the guy plays, it's not the Michael Irvin kind of cokiness :). If anyone has met the man's mother, you can see where it comes from

I've never heard him called uncoachable, he certainly seemed to develop pretty well in his 4 years at tOSU...

Well, if everyone on our team practiced and played with the same "cocky" attitude that Carpenter has, you can go ahead and start booking your fights to Arizona for early 2007...

I agree.

His youngest brother played middle school football this past year and our school played his. Bobby actually came to the game during the OSU season and stood on the sidelines.

He was polite and signed autographs for everyone that asked.

He makes it to a lot of Lancaster games and has stated in the local paper that he would some day like to follow in the footsteps of his dad and be the head coach

Of course, coaching Lancaster High is such a glamourous position that only the cockiest of people can do it :wink2:

When I hear the word "cocky" I think of someone who thinks that they are better than someone else (as a person) / puts themselves above other people...

Well this "cocky" player spent an hour or more after every home game signing autographs along with Hawk and Schlegel...well after the team buses left them...even after the stadium officials moved everyone outside and locked the gates...and until every single person (young and old, man, woman, or child) got the picture and/or signature they asked for from Bobby C and the others LBs. Bobby was one of the most approachable, accomodating, well mannered, fan-friendly, class-act guys on this team, and there is obviously at least one NFL team that doesn't have a very clear idea of what he is really all about.

I'm thrilled for Carp and his family that he is going to a coach and franchise that does. Good luck in Dallas, Bobby. :osu:

**VERY WELL SAID! I couldn't be happier for him & his family. I'm definitely looking forward to continue following his career & watching him on Sunday afternoons!

And as far as... "Some of the locals around Lancaster describe him the same way. I've even heard some wish a bad draft status on him b/c they disliked him so much b/c of his cockiness and arrogance growing up in Lancaster"

**I find that so hard to believe! If it's true, I feel sorry for them. Those people, whoever they are, are obviously confused, misinformed or just plain jealous!
I'm from Lancaster [& damn proud!] & so is the entire side of my dads family. My dad went to school with Bobby's dad. Bobby is the *pride* of Lancaster! Anyone who wished a bad draft status on him [or any other hopefuls] can go to hell.
I wonder how upset they were when he went in the 1st round?!?! jerks

With that said, GO COWBOYS!

Don't know how many people have seen this, but Bobby appears at the end of one of those poorly produced, local commercials for (I think) The Peoples Bank in the Village of Baltimore (why a po-dunk Baltimore, OH bank?!) I imagine this is only running under Time Warner in Southeast Ohio.

At the end of the commercial, he's in a corner drug store looking through the greeting cards section, where he picks out a "With Deepest Sympathy" card, and the voiceover is him saying something about Charlie Weis and the Fiesta Bowl.

:slappy:

I thought that was pretty cocky. :wink2:

You simply MUST record that and get it into the hands of the clip makers.

If I'd had the forethought to do it I would. I caught the commercial again last night on FSN/33 in SE Ohio. The commercial aired in one of the two local spots during the Reds/Rockies Game.

Bobby looks over the sympathy card and the voiceover says, "Dear Charlie, sorry for your loss."

**If this is true, I would LOVE to see that!!!! I'll have to pay more attention to the local commercials next time I'm in Lancaster :)

I've spoken with Bobby and he was far from cocky. He was actually very soft spoken, warm and engaging. He was not at all arrogent or assholish. Some people tend to view confidence as cockiness.

There are several former Buckeyes I would consider to be much more cocky than Bobby is.
