Hawk nominated for rookie of the week

Green Bay linebacker A.J. Hawk is a finalist for the Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week honors, the NFL announced on Tuesday.
Hawk, a former Ohio State All-America from Centerville High School, recorded nine solo tackles, three assisted tackles and one sack in the Packers' 34-24 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.


Hawk led Green Bay with 12 total tackles and currently ranks second on the team with 43 tackles. His 2.5 sacks are tied for second on the squad.
He joins Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil, Dolphins wide receiver Derek Hagan, Texans tailback Wali Lundy and Jets tailback Leon Washington as rookie of the week candidates.
Fans can cast their votes on NFL.com. The winner will be announced Thursday night.

Jennings, who led the NFL with 328 receiving yards in the preseason, ranks second among all rookie wide receivers with 21 receptions, 378 yards and three receiving touchdowns ... Defensively, first-round pick A.J. Hawk (Ohio State) has provided solid play at linebacker, racking up a team-high 58 tackles with 2.5 sacks, tying for the second-most by an NFC rookie.

A.J. Hawk Nominated For NFL Rookie Of The Week

Defensive end ELVIS DUMERVIL of the Denver Broncos, wide receiver DEREK HAGAN of the Miami Dolphins, linebacker A.J. HAWK of the Green Bay Packers, running back WALI LUNDY of the Houston Texans and running back LEON WASHINGTON of the New York Jets are the finalists for NFL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK honors for games played on October 22-23, the NFL announced Tuesday.

Fans can vote for one of these five players on NFL.com beginning Tuesday at 9am EST and ending Thursday at 5pm EST to determine the NFL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK. The NFL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK will be announced Thursday evening on NFL.com.

In addition, for the second year, NFL fans may cast their votes for the NFL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK using phones with Sprint wireless service - an opportunity available only to Sprint customers. This fast, convenient voting method involves texting the word PEPSI to short code 7777. Sprint customers will then receive an interactive text message that links fans to the ballot with the five finalists each week. Data and text messaging rates may apply.

After the regular season, five players will be nominated for Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year honors. Fans can vote for the winner on NFL.com and via Sprint wireless service throughout the month of January. The winner will be announced at a press conference at Super Bowl XLI in South Florida.

A closer look at the finalists:

-Denver's Elvis Dumervil recorded three tackles, three sacks and a fumble recovery in the Broncos' 17-7 victory over the Cleveland Browns. Following a two-sack performance last week against Oakland, Dumervil recorded his second consecutive multi-sack game. He now has five sacks this season, second-most among NFL rookies.

-Miami's Derek Hagan caught five passes for 53 yards and one touchdown in the Dolphins' 34-24 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Early in the fourth-quarter, Hagan caught his first career NFL touchdown, a 13-yard strike from Joey Harrington to help bring the Dolphins within three points, 27-24.

-Green Bay's A.J. Hawk recorded nine solo tackles, three assisted tackles and one sack in the Packers' 34-24 victory over the Miami Dolphins. Hawk led Green Bay with 12 total tackles and currently ranks second on the team with 43 tackles this season. His 2.5 sacks are tied for second on the team.

-Houston's Wali Lundy carried 19 times for 93 yards and one touchdown in Houston's 27-7 victory over the AFC South-rival Jacksonville Jaguars. Lundy, who added four catches for 15 yards, scored his first career NFL touchdown on two-yard run in the fourth quarter to extend Houston's lead to 17-7.

-The New York Jets' Leon Washington carried 20 times for 129 yards and two touchdowns in the Jets' 31-24 victory over the Detroit Lions. Washington, who averaged over six yards per carry, had a long run of 23 yards and scored on touchdown runs of five yards in the first quarter and 16 yards in the fourth quarter.

Centerville's Hawk voted NFL rookie of the week

Green Bay Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk has been voted the Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week.
Hawk recorded 12 tackles (nine solo) and one sack in the Packers' 34-24 victory over the Miami Dolphins. He ranks second on the team in tackles (43) and sacks (2.5).


The former Ohio State All-American from Centerville High School was selected by fan vote on NFL.com and via Sprint Wireless Service.
After the season, five players will be nominated for Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year honors, and the winner will be revealed at Super Bowl XLI.

Tickets hard to get, even for the players

Q What's your favorite high school football memory?

A My sophomore year, my brother (Ryan) had a long run, and a guy was jamming on his leg. We kind of got into a little fight with the other team.
They broke it up and the next play, my brother broke like five or six tackles and scored on a touchdown run and we celebrated in the end zone.

Q What's something the average NFL fan doesn't know?

A We don't get as many tickets as they think. We don't get any tickets for away games. Everybody thinks it's real easy to get them. It's definitely not.

Q How is Green Bay?

A I love it. I don't think you can get that in any other NFL city, how it is in Green Bay. Everyone cares so much and is so passionate for the game. That's what's made it a great transition from college to the NFL. That's how it is in Columbus, what I'm used to. I know it's not like that everywhere.

Q How is being a rookie like being a freshman?

A You don't have a freshman year in the NFL. You need to come in and play well. I don't feel any pressure from that. I feel I have high expectations of myself, so I hope people have high expectations of me as well. It's something that comes with the territory. I think you should embrace it.

Columbus does a great job of making it not a huge transition from college to the pros on that aspect ? to be under a microscope. When you're at Ohio State in college, you don't want your fans hoping you go 6-6. They want to win a national title every year.

Q What do you do to get away from football?

A A little golf, a little poker, hang out with my wife now that I'm married. I enjoy that the most.

Q What would you do if you didn't play football?

A I think I'd be a cop somewhere, ATF, FBI, something like that. That's what I'd like to do.

Q What is Brett Favre like?

A I just think he's a class guy, a great teammate. He treats everyone the same on and off the field.

I have a lot of respect for his game and how he is as a person in the locker room. There's a reason he's one of the best to ever play. He carries himself that way.

WhatNFL has done for Hawk

With these guys playing like they do, it's no wonder why the NFL is tossing money left and right to get them... AJ Hawk didn?t waste too much time putting that NFL salary of his to good use, his crib in Green Bay is ridiculously nice! I?m actually kinda surprised at how mature and developed of a house he has for such a young fella, pretty cool to watch either way http://attblueroom.com/sports
