Yes but then you have to put the washer thru detox and rehab.

Sure! But, start out by using half the amount to avoid using too much!
You don't want your washroom looking like an episode from "I Love Lucy".

I did and I don't know anything about washing machines, but here is what I did when mine looked like it was going to foam over.

I added a tablespoon of fabric softener in the soap chute and rinse into the machine with two cups of water. The bubbles disappeared and that was it. A friend told me that the same thing happens when you wash a quarter teaspoon of salt into the wash, but I don't know about that one for sure.
