I always thought her two best attributes were her personality and business smarts. Just seemed like a genuinely sweet human being who found a way to be ultra successful. I was never really into her music.
Finding a way to use the epic cans without being slutty made her pretty unique.

Damn.
Wasn't really of fan of her music ( although she did put out some interesting stuff from time to time) but she was a truly great person. Everything she did for people. Her program to provide books to children every month when people in this country want to ban and burn books, everything about her life was about helping people. I may not have been a fan of her music, but I loved what Dolly was as a person.
The world just lost a bright light and got quite a bit darker.
Rest easy Dolly.

Lazy Slob
The peak of her fame was in the early 80's, just as I was coming to age. I knew her more from her movies back then, 9 to 5, Rhinestone, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. I could only name a handful of her songs. She was a big star, a very charming and decent women. Still, whenever she was on screen I suddenly became very healthy, there's even a thread here that attests to that.

Lately my wife and I have been into Dolly's rendition of the Collective Soul song Shine. I never knew about it till recently, even though she won a Grammy for it. My wife now wants it played at her funeral (hopefully in many years from now). Such an incredible person. I miss her already .....

I am not much of a country music fan but Dolly Parton may be the most consequential musician of all time. 325 million books to kids, all the other philanthropy. In my mind, there was no other person that portrayed what is good and decent in America than she.

I can't remember how old I was at the time, but my friend up the street like to make mention of Dolly's boobs, and it was at an age where I was not yet thinking about such thing, especially on an adult woman. (This kid was an accident baby and he had 3 siblings who were like full on adults when we were 8 or 9 or 7 or whatever we were) But anyway, once I noticed it was hard, ahem, not to. (Thinking further it was was probably 7 or 8 or whenever 9 to 5 came out). @zbuck we don't need to go there.
