Yep. Way too early. Really loved his job and was a must watch FB feed during the winter especially.

Yeah, this one is especially sad.

It was a particular shock to me yesterday because of my pattern of dodging the local news and trying to just see the weather. I'd also gotten into checking online quite a lot. A few weeks ago we were having some kind of snow event or other, and I tuned in Ch. 10's weather. Remember thinking, Oh, drat, it's not Chris. Even though (I'm pretty sure) some of my Facebook people go to his church, I'd never seen any posts about him being ill, so it was a total surprise to see that he'd passed. Saw the post and had one of those moments of "No, wait, that can't be right. He's not supposed to be dead."

Of course it sucks for people to lose family anytime, but it really sucks to have it happen right before Christmas. Their kids are still pretty young. It's going to make Christmases bittersweet for them.

2018's a year I won't be sorry to see go.

What's really shitty is that he got sick, I think, a few months after he got married. I could be wrong on that, but I don't think it was more than 6 months that he was diagnosed.

I'd thought he'd been married for some time. I know he used to show pics etc. of their kids on air. Then again, it was only legalized about 3 years ago wasn't it, and I think the obit said he'd been ill for 2 years, so yeah, pretty darn close.

I'm a big weather geek, so losing those guys hits me a little harder than many celebrities. One of the weather channel's long-time anchors died of cancer a couple summers ago. Guess I feel closer to them because we share a passion for big weather. Always loved storms and snow.

This is when TCM starts running their year-end video of all the celebs who have passed. It's always kinda mind-blowing to see them all together.
A lot of years they've had to tack someone on to the end after they start airing it, because they check out in the last couple weeks of December.
