I have yet to have a good meal at LM... Vaquero/El Vaquero/La Vaquero are all really good (same menu... I think different brothers/sisters/kids own the different versions)...

Great happy hour... half off drinks and free chips...

The Vaquero chain is the way to go.

I believe the family operates the restaurants and they are up to 8 stores or something like that now. (33 in Grandview, Olentangy River Road, Sawmill Rd, Muirfield, Delaware, Polaris, Toledo and one more)

Chile Verde is also very good, but pricey if I remember correctly.
There are a couple of good ones on East Main near 270 (Mi Mexico and El Portal)
Personally, I thought Las Margaritas was no better than Don Pablos

El Vaquero is the best Mexican joint in Columbus IMHO.

Actually, I just got back from there. :)

Had a friend say it best, El Vaquero is the chef boyardee of mexican food. its ok but nothing special. The smaller the restaurant usually means the better mexican food IMHO.

Like what other restaurants?
No offense to you or your buddy, but I find it hard to take seriously anyone whose taste buds have led them so far astray :)

El Vaquero is good, not the best Mexican restaurant, but it is good.
But remember 12 years ago Columbus Mexican restauratns were Chi Chi's and a Don Pablos.

La Hacienda on Sinclair is good, maybe a step up from EV's.
Abuelo's(Easton) is pretty good, but it is the Champps of mexican food.

I think that mexican food in Columbus is much like Chinese food. A lot of decent places, but nothing that I would consider fine dining.

Great call... I totally forgot about Chile Verde. Hands down best in town. It is pricey for mexican, but great food, mom & pop type spot. Good salsa, great drinks, great food.... what's not to like?
