Not to wish ill on college athletes, but if there is anything more fun than an already thin USC roster taking a hit due to injury, it is taking a hit due to an injury caused by another player.

With the added bonus, of course, of maintaining team discipline by not disciplining that other player.

I am sure that there are some players on USC who side with Havili and others who side with Bryant. Some who think Havli should be disciplined, others who think not.

At least I really, really hope so.

You get 'em Lane.

On College Football Live today, Joe Schad said that the NCAA is investigating Tennesse for alleged violations that occurred during Kiffin's tenure there.

Here's an article:

ESPN

Source: Vols expect letter of inquiry

NCAA investigators interviewed Tennessee assistant football coaches Lance Thompson and Jim Chaney and other school officials in Knoxville last spring in the process of examining possible recruiting violations beyond the appearance of Vols recruiting hostesses at high school games, a source told ESPN on Friday.

Thompson and Chaney are the holdover coaches from the one-year Tennessee regime of Lane Kiffin, now coach at USC. A separate source said Florida State assistant Eddie Gran, a former Tennessee assistant under Kiffin, also was questioned by the NCAA.

The first source said Tennessee expects to receive a letter of inquiry from the NCAA in the near future. As part of a broadened inquiry, the NCAA is expected to interview other former Vols coaches, including Kiffin, about recruiting methods at Tennessee, including the timing of coaching staff contacts with high school players, a source said.

Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton declined to comment on the nature of any ongoing investigation but said Friday: "It's been publicly acknowledged that the NCAA has followed up on allegations related to our football program last fall. We have not received a letter of inquiry and can't comment any further at this time."

Tennessee acknowledged it committed at least six secondary violations during Kiffin's tenure. The NCAA said the large number of secondary recruiting violations could warrant classification as a major violation.

[USC fan] THIS TEAM IS UNITED, THEY WILL COME TOGETHER AND GO 12-0 AND GET THE AP TITLE!!!111!!!![/USC fan]

That would be a clueless USC fan, since they play 13 games this year because of the opener in Hawaii. :wink2:

I am absolutely shocked. Next thing I'll hear is there are allegations against Calipari paying athletes to play at Kentucky.

USC's Havili banned from team activities after injuring teammate

LOS ANGELES -- Southern California fullback Stanley Havili has been banned from team activities as punishment for injuring teammate T.J. Bryant in a fight last week.

Coach Lane Kiffin told Havili to stay home from meetings and practice Friday. The Trojans haven't decided when the senior will be allowed to return, creating yet another distraction in USC's never-ending cavalcade.

"I continue to be very disappointed in Stanley's decision-making," Kiffin said. "We talk about protecting this team, and it's just very disappointing from somebody I don't know if I've ever been disappointed in. I've been so disappointed because it's so unexpected."

Havili and Bryant scuffled a week ago when a pre-training camp conditioning drill erupted into a shoving match and apparently ended with Havili striking Bryant in the face. Although USC initially thought Bryant wasn't seriously hurt, he underwent X-rays on his cheekbone Wednesday, leading to surgery Thursday that will keep him out for at least three weeks.

Kiffin said Bryant "begged" him to allow Havili to keep practicing despite the altercation. The first-year coach still felt compelled to take a disciplinary stand -- even against one of his team leaders.

"We just don't condone that," Kiffin said.

After practicing with the Trojans on Thursday, Havili wasn't permitted to attend team meetings, an early walk-through or practice Friday. Kiffin said Havili was allowed to stay in his dorm room.

Bryant is a junior cornerback who spent his first two seasons as a backup, but hoped to earn a starting spot this fall. He hopes to return to practice before the Trojans' season-opener at Hawaii on Sept. 2.
