Landing Both Gwaltney and Mo Wells

Speed and Power:

Would give OSU the Running Atttack of a Speed RB of Auburn's (Caddilac Williams) and the Power RB of a (Ronnie Brown).
Can you imagine that combination in OSU's backfield?

Landing both Gwaltney and Mo Wells would greatly improve OSU's Passing Game and benefit J.Zwick and would be down right scarry with both Gwaltney and Wells behind Troy Smith.

I still think when it comes down to it with Gwaltney, OSU is no doubt his best option at playing early and a hellva lot closer to home for him and his family and Friends than going USC and OSU has to have a definite advantage over WV if Gwaltney wants to play Big Time CFB infront of National TV and contending for NC's and BCS Bowls every year. Same for Mo Wells decision to either play for a top tier program like OSU or a 2nd tier program in GT.

I say Chances are Excellent OSU will end up getting both Gwaltney and Mo Wells.

There is a fifth dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition.............

At this point, I think Wells ends up at Georgia Tech. Unless the buckeyes look really good on Wednesday night. Wells latest is that its a coin flip. The buckeyes have gone from a solid lean to a 50/50.... I dont like our chances here.

I think that we dont close Daniels, Wells or Ashley and yet once again, we limp to the finish line of recruiting. This trend is VERY, VERY troubling

Wells certainly looks like he is leaning toward GT,as far as Daniels goes,I don't really care if he doesn't go to OSU,but I think he will in the end up at OSU.Ashley may end up at Penn State, that's where his father would love for him to go.Gwaltney will end up at either OSU or WVU.WVU has the edge because his teammate is going there and they have been in on him longer than any school. The biggest need is RB,without doubt, and next is a pass rusher.I would love to have Ashley. It looks like Lawrence Wilson isn't likely to come to OSU and now he says he wants to be a TE,not play defense.I wouldn't say this class is a failure if we don't get the top flight RB,but it hurts. We did get some outstanding O-lineman and it will be a top ten class.

Maybe its hard for you to understand, but recruiting is a dang screwy science and kids go wherever they feel like going (which often changes weekly). NO ONE could have predicted Hodge going to Wisky. Plus losing him didn't matter, as we already have plenty coming in at that position.

But as to your moronic "Tressel's has been losing recruits at the end for years now" post, read this before you continue making statements like that:

Over the past 4 recruiting classes, not including this current class (2001-2004), Tressel has closed more than well.

In 2001, when he took the job just 2 weeks before signing day, he took our class from 45th ranked in the nation to around 15th in the nation, in just two weeks. He did that by closing well that year. He landed Angelo Chattams (Top 100), Dustin Fox (Top 100), Maurice Hall (Top 100), Lydell Ross (Top 100), Chris Gamble, Marcus Green (Top 150 on one site), Mike Nugent, etc. He even kept Simon Fraser (Top 100) a firm commitment, when he was wavering a bit.

In 2002, Tressel closed extremely well in the last month of the recruiting process as well. In the final month, he landed Mike D'andrea (Top 100), Bobby Carpenter (Top 100), Troy Smith (Elite 11 QB), Santonio Holmes (playmaker), Derek Morris (Top 100, but we all know what happened from there), Quinn Pitcock (Top 100), Stan White Jr. (Top 100), Brandon Mitchell, and Nate Salley (from Florida). Richard Washington (another Top 100), committed to OSU, but eventually chose N.C. State.

in 2003, Tressel closed in January with David Patterson (Top 100), Donte Whitner (Top 100), Dareus Hiley (Top 100), Brandon Maupin (was on some Top 100 lists), Ira Guilford (ranked #7 safety in the nation), Louis Irizzary (Top 100, but we all know what happened to Irizzary eventually), Sian Cotton (was on some Top 100 lists), Marcel Frost (Top 10 TE, Top 20 DE, changed from Iowa to OSU), and Anthony Schlegal (as a 5 star Division 1 transfer right before signing day). The inability to get defensive ends Shawn Crable and Turk McBride, and the inability to keep defensive end Stanley McClover is what led to the myth of how we didn't close well in 2003, but we closed well at every other position but defensive end, and got every player we wanted really bad in the last month that year except for those couple of defensive ends.

In 2004, Tressel closed in January and in early February with... Nader Abdallah (Top 100), Devon Lyons (Top 5 safety, Top 20 WR), Albert Dukes (Top 20 WR, #2 WR from Florida behind Xavier Carter), Kyle Mitchum (Top 100), Nick Patterson (#23 ATH, coaches wanted him bad), Vernon Gholston (the #1 defensive end our coaches wanted most last year), Rory Nicol (Top 100, #2 tight end overall in the nation), Ted Ginn Jr. (#2 overall recruit in the nation), Dionte Johnson (future starter at bullback), Alex Barrow (underated recruit who proved his worth in the high school All Star games, even Miami Hurricane fans on the recruiting boards thought he looked like a 5 star quality D-lineman in the Big 33 game, and they were drooling over him), and Curtis Perry (could be a nice sleeper).

Plenty of Top 100 recruits over those years that Tressel closed with in the last month before signing day. Plenty of other nice recruits as well, like Santonio Holmes, Devon Lyons, Sian Cotton, etc.

So why does it matter whether we get these guys on Jan. 21, or on signing day. If all of those guys that I listed above would have committed on signing day each year, we would be talking about how great of a closer JT is. We seem to hammer him, just because we come up like 2 guys short each year on signing day (like Jarrett and Rhyan Anderson last year), and we have to end up banking those 2 scholarships, or giving them to walk-ons.

So what's the problem?

What?

Look out!... the sky.... its falling.

A great class isn't made on signing day... anyway... do we need one or both of these Tailbacks? Sure... but bitch because they aren't locked up already... not because some kid doesn't sign the right way on the last day. (How many of those kids really don't have their mind made up by then?)

Hold up here, just one second..

Last I heard, Gwaltney still has USC up near the top, though there are people assuming that since he said he doesn't want to sit on the bench, he may not go there...

Next, I am not seeing all the doom and gloom from Well's comments that many seem to be having... quite the opposite, I see the 'coin flip' comments as a kid trying to build up suspense, which he is certainly intitled to since this only really happens once... As much as has been said about being a possible silent verbal, etc. leads me to think he just wants people to pay attention to his announcement, instead of ignoring it since everyone *knows* he is coming to tOSU...

As for Wilson, we are far from out of that one (since I believe the last 'leader' he had was us).. but as many have said, he seems to be looking for reasons for staying at ND, and maybe the TE thing is just another way to justify it. But we never really had this guy either until Ty got canned.

Where is all the negativity coming from here? I am not seeing it, just relax people and lets see how things end up in a month and a half..

I cannot say this any more bluntly. If the AA game were tomorrow, Mo Wells would pull out an OSU hat. Look at his last 3 updates from insiders and rivals. On insiders, even after his GT visit, he said osu was the leader. He doesnt want to announce publicly until 1/15, so now he is saying both are even. However, all you have to do is look at the comments he makes about each school and connect the very obvious dots.

If Rico Mccoy would opt for UT, OSU is still going to get a commitment from Lennix who plays the same position.

Gwlatny would be a very welcomed surprise to this class, but I doubt anyone is confident in osu's chances.

Daniels has been playing this game for some time now, and most folks really dont think he's coming here anyway.

Ashley would sting a little, but DT is a deep position at this point.
