Game Thread Kent State at tOSU, Sept. 19th, 12pm ET, FOX

Thanks. I know it was a big game and he is only a freshman, but man, you gotta put him in.
They talk about him as if he’s Reggie Bush. Reggie Bush shows up and scores a touchdown by juking the entire Ball State defense out.

Then 1 damn snap.

The team clearly thinks other than JJ he’s the most dangerous player on offense. So play him.

This team will not be full potential until they let the best players play.

That also means Riley Pettijohn and Wilder on defense as well as Boyd and Henry Jr on offense. This is a very deep freshman class. Get them involved.

Side note, I’d be just fine if JJ just doesn’t play this week. We know what he can do and Julian needs to just read the play regardless of where # 4 is.

The shot calls to JJ will always be there. Hopefully he goes back to the 80% passer who throws to open receivers. If others become involved that will only make JJ more dangerous

1. Fans have no idea if Bey is upholding his part of being a teammate. He was already suspended for 2 practices before practices even started, he fucked up BOTH kick returns in his first game, but Joe Keyboard saw him juke the worst MAC team once and now they know better than the coaching staff against obviously the best team on the schedule in their house.

2. Yep. We have, at the very least, one of the 3 best football players I've ever seen wearing an Ohio State uniform. Probably top 2 with Orlando Pace....but my username suggests I'm a little biased towards Eddie George. We only get him for 3 years. This is year 3. A lot of people would like to see him in that uniform as many times as possible. I'm one of them.

1. Yeah I get it. Then why even get him the ball once vs Texas. Anyway, some kids need to grow up. Percy Harvin for example was one of them but if he’s a top 2 play maker on offense (and the way everyone talks it seems like he is) then it’s owed to the team to put your best foot forward especially the seniors. You’re right that he seems like he has some growing up to do though.

2. It’ll be moot because I’m sure he plays at least half the game. I just think for the next few games what might help Jeremiah the most is if some of these other WRs step up. If Phillip Bell holds onto the ball maybe the next play is a shot to JJ for a touchdown. Maybe if Julian has more throws to Devin that’s a touchdown or if he hits Boyd on that dig the drive stays alive and again the next play is a big hitter to JJ. Keeping the sticks moving is only more opportunities for everyone including JJ.

Won’t ever see a talent like this again IMO. So I no doubt get we better enjoy these games we have left,

Kent State has a ton of famous alumni

From athletes to comedians and entertainers, Kent State has a storied list of famous alumni.
Drew Carey, Arsenio Hall, Steve Harvey, Nick Saban, Lou Holtz, James Harrison, Julian Edelman, Antonio Gates, Michael Keaton, Jack Lambert, and Joe Walsh are just some of the celebrities who graduated from Kent State.
Edelman famously played quarterback before shifting to wide receiver in the NFL.

Kent State has a brutal football history

Historically, the Golden Flashes have been one of the worst programs in FBS Division I history. The Golden Flashes have an all-time record of 371-614-28 (.380) and are 1-4 in bowl games, with the lone win coming against Utah State and Jordan Love in 2019.
Of the 24 head coaches all-time, only six left the school with a winning record (Donald Starn, Trevor J. Rees, Don James, Dennis Fitzgerald, Glen Mason, and Darrell Hazell). They won one MAC championship in 1972.

One of the most electric players in football plays at Kent State

If you don’t know who Da’Realyst Clark is, it might be time to get familiar. Not only does he have an awesome name, but he is one of the best kick returners in the country.
Last year, Clark recorded 16 attempts for 452 yards and two touchdowns as the Kent State returner. He also had three catches for 108 yards and a touchdown, and went 2-for-2 passing for 39 yards and a touchdown. He is due for a huge second season at Kent.

The head coach is not the Prime Minister of Canada

If you Google ‘Kent State head coach’, Mark Carney will pop up. However, if you Google Mark Carney, you will get the Prime Minister of Canada.
If you want a funny coincidence, Carney is the 24th Prime Minister of Canada, while the other Mark Carney is the 24th head coach in Kent State football’s history. Carney is 6-8 as Kent State’s head coach since taking over for Kenni Burns, who went 1-23.

Black Squirrels run the campus

IN A FLASH: When a Black Squirrel Crosses Your Path on Friday the 13th | Kent State Today

If you step onto Kent State’s campus for 30 seconds, you will either see or hear about the Black Squirrels. Between the Black Squirrel Festival, the Black Squirrel 5K, and the numerous signs around campus, Kent State has embraced the squirrels as the school’s unofficial mascot. In 1961, KSU grounds superintendent Larry Wooddell and retired Davey Tree expert M.W. “Biff” Staples brought 10 black squirrels to Kent State, and they have been there ever since.
