  • I heard today on WBT radio here in Charlotte where the town of New London, Ct after winning the lawsuit argued in front of the Supreme Court has decided to charge the individuals whose houses that were taken rent for the 5 years the eminent domain issue was contested. In the cities opinion, the Supreme Court ruling only reinformed the city's position that the land was theirs all along. I tried to find this on other news sources but could not. The New London paper had no mention of it. If this story is true it is the absolute abuse of power! Not only do they take a person's home, but to add insult to injury they have the gall to charge rent on your owned property. Hopefully, I am not alone on this... I thought the Supreme Court ruling was flawed, but this latest action by New London is really over the top. Your thoughts on the subject?

If they get away with this, it would be yet one more crime in this situation. I consider eminent domain to be stealing anyway. So for them to charge rent to the people they stole the land from would be, in my eyes, a second crime. As long as the land was in contention, it belonged to the occupants, not the city.
