K Noah Ruggles (1st Team All American)

He was the most automatic we've had since Nuge who is the benchmark. Appreciate his Buckeye contributions. He should get a shot in the league.

He was solid but doesn’t have a big enough leg for NFL. His true range is around 47-48 yards before he’s losing accuracy bc he has to swing for the fences.

Good NFL kickers are pushing 58-62 yards at this point. Fair point on his accuracy within 45 yards but that won’t be enough to get any invites.

On the rewatch of the UGA game I didn't realize that he barely made that 48 yarder. Not surprising he tried to put a little extra on that last kick.

It wasn’t that he tried to put anything extra on it. His plant foot was about 2 inches from the ball.

Both can be true at the same time. He is overstriding and winds up closer to the ball because he knows he needs to generate more power from 50. It's akin to me trying to swing a golf club 'harder' because I want to carry over a pond that everybody knows I don't have the distance to carry. Not only is the ball still getting wet, but I'm probably going to hook the shit outta it.

Noah's career long was 49 his Soph year at UNC. His long at OSU was 48. He was 0-5 in his five-year college career from 50+, and even lost KO duties this year to Jayden Fielding. The miss against UGA is absolutely not on Noah, it's on Ryan Day's three play calls before the kick that netted minus-1 yard and put the ball on the left hash.

Day said after the game that the run call was the same one that they scored on against Penn State with Treveyon. Thought he could catch UGA playing more conservative. I don’t fault him on that.

The 2nd down play they looked to just pick up 5-6 yards but Xavier Johnson let the ball slip through his hands. I don’t exactly fault Day for that, either.

The 3rd down play was a disaster from the jump. UGA brought pressure on Royer’s side and CJ got rid of the ball before he got sacked or there was a holding penalty. Had there not been immediate pressure, Stroud would have seen he had a guy in the flat to the left wide open. If he hits him, he picks up at minimum 7-8 yards, maybe more because both DB’s went with the guy going deep. Not quite sure how Day could be at fault there, either.

I used to be more at that series, now Im more at peace with it like you. Bottom line is both teams needed to get a stop on defense to win and only one could

Just one point of correction, Day said he went with the run play anticipating a blitz. He was hoping the run play would catch the blitz wide and the RB would pop it out the backside.

Which frustrates me a bit. He knows way more about football than me, but if he anticipated the blitz I feel like there were much better calls than a run into a stacked defense bringing the blitz. Actually would’ve been a great time for one of his patented WR screens….I still hate that run call….hasn’t gotten any better since the game either.

You are correct. I definitely remember now him saying he anticipated blitz.

The 3rd down play is the one that makes me sick. I wish CJ would have thrown it in the flat. Would have been a 42 or 43 yard attempt had he just let it fly. Oh well.
