K Aaron Pettrey (Las Vegas Locos - UFL)

Something you may not know but I did some research and Ryan Pretorius was a professional rugby player in England and France before joining up with the Buckeyes. It seems he already has lots of pressure filled experience to help him, and in addition, having personally seen him kick, I'm extremely impressed with his talent, distance and accuracy. Have seen him put it over at 60yds!!!!

Uh, doesn't his being a professional athlete of any type void his "amatuer" status in the eyes of the NCAA? Remember that kid who wanted to play football at Colorado but the NCAA nixed that because he was supposedly getting money to support his skiing training for the Olympics?

On a side note, let's try not to hijack this thread...

Of course not to Hijack the tread but a quick answer. As long as he didn't take any money from sponsors and was just paid professionally he should be fine. I am thinking he would be treated just like baseball players that come back to play college football. The trouble with the Colorado kid was not his professional winnings but the fact he was paid by sponsors for advertisments.

The problem with the guy in Colorado was that he wanted to be paid by his sponsors WHILE he was playing for Colorado, so that he could train for skiing in the off-season. That would be like a minor league baseball player wanting to continue in the minors while playing college football.

Pretorius is fine as long as he wasn't paid to play American Football at any point. As long as it was a different sport, he is still an amateur football player.

Verified: Pettrey- gray shirt for '05 class

to update:

This from a close family member:

The OSU staff has once again requested that Aaron delay his signing until Jan '06 because Huston will most likely get his 6th year, thus taking up a scholarship. He may walk-on with the team until the scholy opens up.

I dont think this is a good idea. Not only has Aaron patiently waited for his scholy, I believe he is the best kicker available to us. I saw the Kentucky-Tennessee All-Star game and this kid knocked most of his kickoffs out of the endzone. He is legit.

The only thing I can think of is they are concerned with having too many kickers on scholarship for this year and reducing the number available to sign top recruits before next week's signing deadline.

There is probably more to the story than we know, like usual. I would be willing to bet that he gets a scholie in the spring and competes for the starting job.

I hope, we need some serious competition at that position.
IMHO, as long as JT is coach, there is no such thing as too many kickers!
The kid has waited a full year of his life, give him the scholly.

as of right now, no there isnt any more to the story.
I guess if Pettrey is ok with delaying his enrollment, it doesn't matter. But you got to wonder how much longer the coaches can delay him before he gets fed up. At this rate he will be 28 before officially enrolling. By freeing up his schollie, I wonder what the coaches have up their sleeve. Five schollies left for the 5 remaining recuits (not counting Daniels) ummmm....

I'm splitting this and placing it in the Rumor Mill until verified. Linking your own Thread at BN does not constitute a source.

EDIT: I'm not saying this is not true or your source is not legit, but it does need verification like anything else.
