Don't look down: A guest swims in the infinity pool of the Skypark that tops the Marina Bay Sands hotel towers - 55 storeys over the city of Singapore yesterday

Uhm, not really just opened, I stayed here a year ago. Also, though you do see the world from the infinity pool, there's an edge a floor down in case anyone gets stupid. It is fantastic up there, here's one of my pictures:

The thing is, the place is pricey, like 400 a night on a weeknight, don't even try a weekend as it's a really popular casino.

Here's a pic of it from the racetrack, it makes for a great pic of Singapore.

That's what... $200 US dollars?

Edit: Oops just checked, looks like the Singapore dollar has grown even stronger vs the US than I thought.

Yeah, the Asian currencies are doing really well VS the dollar since I came out here. When I first came out the Sing was worth about 65 Cents, now it's up to 81 and climbing, one of the few reasons I like being paid in Sing.

Also, much like Dubai, Singapore is a rich mans playground, so I wish it was .50 with 12 bucks for a pack of smokes and 10 bucks for a beer.

And nowhere in town to get some inexpensive chicken satay. :tongue2:

Actually, at the hawker centers food here is pretty cheap, Chicken and Rice, Satay, and the local foods from the neighboring countries (Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia) tend to be fairly inexpensive, resturaunts on the other hand can be pretty brutal, be prepared to drop about a hundred bucks for two if you want to go to any decent place, and a lot more for a nice place.

The reality of Singapore is that it's a tourist destination, they keep it clean, sterile and safe.

We have areas for gambling, lots of shopping from everything to hard to find tech to big brand name crap that costs way too much for a bag or whatever... You have two redlight districts, Geylang Road which tends to be where the troops go, and Orchard Towers (nicknamed four floors of whores) where the tourists go.

So it is what it is, it's pretty, it's safe, it's expensive.

Anyway, back to the Marina Bay Sands :)

I hated dealing with the exchange rates when we lived in England. We could never get past converting them in our heads every time we went out. We would be like "oh, 30 pounds for dinner, that's not bad. Oh wait, that's actually like 55 bucks for some gawl dang bangers and mash." Oh well, it was worth it for the experience.

That pool looks freaking awesome.

In the bottom photo, to the middle and left of the back ground, is what looks like a geodesic dome and some metal "trees." Those are part of what is now known as "MBS Gardens by the Bay" and it is a truly amazing park/garden/bio dome exhibition of plants, trees, and technology. The Skywalk that connects two of the "Super Trees" is very cool and the "Super Trees" themselves are stunning pieces of technology. It just officially opened last week.
