Joseph Barksdale (OL Arizona Cardinals)

There aren't many football players who are engineering majors at OSU. I don't know if he could put in the time for engineering and football. It isn't architecture, but it sure does take up quite a few hours each week, especially if he wants to do honors engineering.

My reaction too the news from Rivals$ is less excitable. It is after all an article written by and originally for consumption on Blue & White.

Like jimotis said, there are a handful of guys already declared in Engineering programs. Besides, Krenzel could hack a class-load of Molecular Genetics while helping guide the Buckeyes to a National Championship. I am pretty sure that kind of science curriculum is no walk in the park - with the labs alone demanding a huge slice of time.

actually a handle of guys
http://ohiostatebuckeyes.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/osu-m-footbl-mtt-alph.html
that list doesnt have fall 06 frosh or graduating players, so its awfully short. also unusually odd is a lot of undeclared younger kids (though it is normal for frosh to be undeclared)
I was undeclard for almost 2 years. That is not unusual at all. Kids say they want to major in these insanely hard areas, but really, I don't even think I would hvae had time to major in engineering. I am not saying they cannot do it, but majoring in engineering and playing football for Ohio State... or any D1 school for that matter... would be very difficult.

BSB$

Oklahoma looks to be offering soon. Joseph wants to be the top DT in the country in this year. JT and Coach Haynes were in to see Joseph last week. He also talks about his experience at the Nike camp in Columbus.

As a graduate of the engineering program, I would say that, while it can be time consuming, I don't think it is that much more consuming than many other majors, particularly if your blessed with good math skills. Take out all of the freakin labs, and I'd say it's similar to accounting or economics. I didn't realize Antonio Smith was an ME - that makes me ever more happy he got his 'ship. Given JBs scores, it seems like something he could handle.

Rivals $ (ND)

5/28

Joseph says he wants an offer from FSU and the ND staff said he would likely start right away.

As much as "#1 Guy" represents Pete Carroll on the message boards, "Instant Starter" is becoming the calling card of Charlie Weis...this has been told to a number of recruits.

He may get that chance too at Ohio State, with us losing our top 3 DT's after this year. If Barksdale comes in and shows he is worthy, I would have no problem seeing him and Denlinger (most likely) start in '07.
