John Wayne...aka The Duke

Everybody is somebody else's weirdo.

Tomorrow Saturday, 26 May 2007 John Wayne would have been 100 years old. He was probably America's first movie "action hero". He did a lot of westerns and war movies, always playing the "good guy". You will probably have an opportunity to see some of his war movies this weekend as many channels play them over the Memorial Day weekend, etc.

To remember him on his birthday, what is your favorite John Wayne movie?

His 171 movies are listed at: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000078/

Mine are:

1. How the West Was Won (I saw this movie back in the 60's at a Cinerama theater, what a thrill!)
2. The Longest Day
3. Hondo (also Al Bundy's favorite)

The Duke was a draft dodger, and got the pics because most of Hollywood was at war.

"The Shootist" was his best film, IMO
Liked the "Quiet Man" and the Cavalry Trio shot by John Ford.

never seen one

never will

And you needed to post that why?

I saw tons of these movies when I was younger, my step-dad loves the Duke and Elvis movies for some reason. Anyways, the movie I remember the most is "How the West was Won" I loved that movie.

I haven't watched any in years though, maybe I should add some to the ole netflix queue.

actually clicked on the thread assuming there was some weird revelation about him.

disappointed that it was an appreciation thread i decided to put the only comment out there i could on the guy.

as to being on the site, been too busy lately with work. always lurking around but posting time is limited. somewhat disappointed with the PC invasion on this site and the premium info nazi's too.
