I can confirm from "inside sources" that timing was a major obstacle in the Calipari to Ohio State conversation. I am guessing the conversation went something like this:

Calipari: Hi. I've decided to move on from Kentucky to a more exciting job opportunity. Are all the new people seated in their chairs in Columbus? It's time to begin talking about bringing a national championship to Ohio State!

Ohio State insider: Well, I think we can safely assume that lots of folks here are loving what you've done with Kentucky, but it may be a bit premature, John. Can we revisit this when hell has frozen over?

At Arkansas, Calipari reportedly has a guarantee of $5 million a year of funds to use for NIL via the Tyson founder's heir. That begs the question, if rich boosters are stepping up like that for Arkansas, will the Les Wexners of the world ever do that for OSU basketball?

Calipari won't face the same pressure he endured in Lexington, but he will have access to power boosters (the Tyson family, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and the Walton family) who will supply enough NIL money to help him attract elite talent.

Just sayin': Jerry Jones and the Walton family too.

John Calipari Announces He’s Leaving Kentucky in Long Video Filmed From His Couch

John Calipari bid farewell to Kentucky’s basketball program in very strange fashion on Tuesday.

The former Wildcats coach posted a video on his X account (formerly Twitter) announcing his decision to part ways with Kentucky after 15 years, filming the nearly four-minute-long reel from his couch. Calipari notably declined to elaborate on his future amid recent reports that he accepted a job as the Arkansas Razorbacks’ next head coach.

“This is a dream job,” Calipari said. “It was my dream job. Anybody in our profession looks at the University of Kentucky and basketball and says that it is the bluest of blue.”
