Job Offer/Grad School at Florida Gators

Diego-Bucks

Lost in Canada
Hey all!

I have an exciting opportunity, but with mixed (at least for the fandom) feelings. I have a job offer/graduate school chance at the University of Florida studying fisheries biology. I'm pretty excited, its a top-notch school. I know we have a few Florida and Southern-based Buckeyes (and other fans here) are there any tips for the move to Gainesville and the happening places? Also, I'll be a university employee first, then a student again, but I'd really love to get to the football games? Any tips on where to go to get tickets and how to tailgate would be most welcome... I know next to nothing about north-Florida locations or culture really.

All I can say is that I had a dream last night that you made the move and enrolled in graduate school at the University of Florida. I can only assume this is a message sent directly from God himself. You don't want to disappoint God, do you?

Ahahaha! I hope its not the case, but do you think that Urban-esque attitude is something I'll have to get used to?!! I can barely stand most SEC-fans anyways...

I never lived in Gainesville, but I did live in Tallahassee and St. Pete. I've taken in games at Gator's (the place where Tyler Moeller was assaulted) and Ferg's (I watched the 2006 debacle there while wearing a t-shirt that said "Future Mrs. Troy Smith") while UF was playing. Gator fans are insufferable. I'm very good friends with several UF grads and big Gator fans, but during football season they're insufferable. Things may improve in the post-messiah era, though.

Haha, I'll be sure to represent my Ohio State fandom to the Gator nation. Any neighborhoods in Gainseville that I should look to get an apartment in vs. others? I don't need luxury, could use a bar and a park nearby. And near campus. Any tips on that one?

There is a pretty good place in Gainesville called BallyHoos. I stop there every time I driving to Orlando and then back on the way up. About 2-3 miles off the exit but worth your time if you are there.

Was featured on ESPN's "Taste of the Town"
I recommend the Shrimp Po-Boy w/ Redbeans and rice and sauteed veggies.

Ah, I am looking at a house across the street from Bellyhoo's. I have a feeling that my wallet won't know what to do with itself if I move there! haha.
