OHIO STATE LOSES: THE AFTERMATH

Second BCS trouncing smudges OSU's Vest
New Orleans

- From The Sweater Vest to The Flunked Test.
Critics today are saying that Jim Tressel is one controversial pass interference call from being John Cooper. A penalty flag was the 15-inch-square patch of polyester that became Ohio State's magic carpet in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl.
In the delay in the first overtime between the ball landing in the end zone and the flag fluttering down were hatched a thousand conspiracy theories. Actually, there was a foul on the play, but it should have been ruled defensive holding since the ball was not in the air.
Ohio State won in the second overtime. It was the Buckeyes' first national championship in 34 years. Romantics said it was won by intangibles and unity, which was partly true.

That guy Livingston is an idiot. That article is completely useless.

Personally, I agree. Fire him. We've had enough of this talk of what he achieved, let's look at what he did not achieve:

  • He lost two national championship games in six years.
  • He has not placed anywhere near the top in any of the annual BBQ cook-offs.
  • Fashion is his worst problem. Not changing with the times.
  • Public relations is a disaster. Neither Mark May nor Mike Freeman seem to like him very much. Trevor Dodd is another one he has failed to impress.
  • Originality and creativity. Name just one dance step that he has invented. Name one piece of artwork hanging in the Louvre. Not good, a real fail on these criteria.
  • Human Resource Managment. No Nobel Peace Prize. Not one. Zip. He actually fails to engage with international conflicts. Just this week, we have Kenya. What has he done to resolve Kenya?
  • TSUN. It's been a while but let's not forget he lost to them. He also said nice things about VLloyd.
  • Barksdale. That is the big one. He blew it on Barksdale big time.
So, you put it together. When we line up criteria like this, Tressel doesn't cut it.

OK, fine, line up the typical coaching stuff and he looks like the top guy in the game, but on these other criteria, he's a failure. Let's see if he sorts out Kenya, get's that one done and I'll change my mind.

Do I get the job? Can I be a big-time "sports journalist" too? Huh? Please? I could associate him by innuendo with the Boston Strangler if you think that might help. Please?

You are disqualified from the job as you used the sarcasm font.

But, I sounded like the other guys, didn't I? I picked the same kind of meaningful criteria and I was very careful to make no sense at all.

Is this because I am a dyslexic American-African?

Upon further review the ruling in the thread has been reversed. ESPN wants to push the Buckeye-bashing agenda worldwide and since you live on the upside-down part of the world you are now qualified... please report to Bristol to find out what personality you will be playing.

Mr. Livingston, what you've just written is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent article were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this forum is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

My new years resolution is to ignore idiocy and pot stirring(or idiot pot stirrers) so that prevents me from reading sportswriters opinions.

Re: your sig. ESPN must really hate Tressel, since today they had the top 3 active coaches (by winning percentage) at Carroll, Stoops and Meyer. The problem with that? Tressel's 82% is higher than Meyer and Stoops

So. Incredibly. Disappointed.

They turned me down. Seems that my chosen personality, moronic turd, was already taken by Mr Howard.

They may have factored in his record at YSU.

I bet they didn't give him credit for his NC's at YSU but took his lowered win %.

I know, I know you are all shocked that ESPN might get fuzzy with the math to support an opinion but it just might have happened in this case.

Critics of Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel are off the mark -- Terry Pluto

Friday, January 11, 2008

Ohio State was picked to finish third in the Big Ten. Then the Buckeyes won their fourth conference football title in seven years. They knocked off Michigan . . . again.
They went to the national championship game and were crushed, 38-24, by LSU.
That proves it, Jim Tressel is a lousy big-game coach.

Bleacher Report- Ohio State Buckeyes: Doormats or Dynasty?

Ohio State Buckeyes: Doormats or Dynasty?

by Bill Burge
January 9, 2008

Turn on any national talk show in America and you will hear the jokes and slights.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are being disrespected by just about anyone outside the state of Ohio. Maybe this verbal berating is justified.

After all, the Buckeyes have been outscored in the past two BCS National Championship games by a combined total of 41 points.

It?s easy to point and laugh at the team that almost wins it all including such teams at the Buffalo Bills, Atlanta Braves or even the Cleveland Indians. To take shots at them is elementary. No brains needed for that.

Obviously, the Buckeyes did not belong on the same field as Florida or LSU. Yet, another perspective can be taken on this whole scenario that paints the Jim Tressel era at Ohio State as a legit dynasty not a runner-up.

[...]

Five ten win seasons, five top five finishes, a BCS National Championship, and a Heisman Trophy award winner are just enough accolades to have your coaching questioned and your program called weak.

Ohio State has engineered 34 current NFL players and annually lead the Big Ten in Academic All Conference picks.

These accomplishments get you scrutinized by the national media? Who said being a head coach is a thankless job?

When it?s all said and done people will form any opinions they feel. I do believe that most of the negative connotations that are put upon Ohio State are because of fans, not football itself. You would be hard pressed to find any bad statistics from the Scarlet and Grey.

[...]

So hosts can belittle Jim Tressel and they can use Ohio State?s name in jest. They can even question whether or not they really are ?The? Ohio State University, but the numbers do not lie.

In 50 years, when all this is just stat sheets and box scores, the picture that will be drawn will look a lot more like a dynasty than a doormat.
