Jim Knowles (DC Penn St.)

Austin Ward is skeptical it would happen because he has two years left on his contract at Ohio State, which represents a big buyout for an Oklahoma team that hasn’t paid the kind of cash they need for that level of assistant even without the buyout on top.
I am skeptical more because of Coach V’s tenuous position. I think Knowles is smart enough to know that leaving a very good thing for a very meh thing makes little sense… especially considering that if Venables is let go, there’s a chance that he wouldn’t be retained. It would be a wasted move.

Shoutout to all the posters here who had to write weekly nonsense about how he needed to be fired. Wear that and don’t come back to this thread with that crap next year when he is coaching the pups up.

Knowles is the best DC in college football.

Since you are giving shoutouts, I guess it's ok to bring it back up in this thread then.

Criticism of Knowles was warranted up until 4 games ago. He's been part of a NC now so he gets more trust and slack but let's see what it looks like next year sans his boat load of seniors.

A 4 game heater doesn't end the conversation for al time no matter how triggering some find non positive commentary.

????

I mean if you want to go back to prior years I would agree to a a point, but this defense didn't rank #1, #2, #3,etc. for the entire season in all of those categories based on a "4 game heater". Even in his worst game wasn't THAT bad if you look at what the Ducks did to everyone this season outside of sleepwalking through Wisconsin.

I guess you can be frustrated with the vanilla first possession defensive strategy we had in the regular season. But that's a tough complaint IMO when you look at how dominant they played after that.
