Somewhat in his defense, it must be frustrating to be told that LJ Sr can do what he wants and then be reprimanded for results.

If Day told him to ratchet down the pressure and play nice with LJ and then told him the opposite 2 years later, I get being pissed. Doubt it was that simple, but probably felt like he was being jerked around.

Then again he’s 60 so it’s ok to expect better situational awareness.

Franklin will never be fired. he will fire a token OC whenever he's in trouble and they'll swear he'll fix it next time

I remember poaching LJ from PSU ….payback.

Bad example. Penn State had no head coach and Urban hired LJ. OSU didn’t “poach” him.

Another note on MG: At the celebration ceremony today, Day also referred to Matt as "one of the brightest minds in college football." I remember Urban saying similar things about Day before he became HC.

Knowles is a good DC but he's far from irreplaceable.

Remember it took a few years for his D to really take for and that was with a loaded talent roster at his disposal. Ped State is probably gonna expect immediate results and be disappointed.

He is clearly not a people person lol. I think he will stay in a DC role for his career. Plus he is older, and this would be the time.

Doubt it. He wasn’t a recruiter, unless one or more position coaches leave. The recruits on defense seem to have the closest relationships with their position coaches.

When he took the job he said he understood he didn’t have 3 years to build a dominant defense.

He then took three years to build a dominant defense.

How much of it was the blend of players and scheme we will never know but he isn’t going to turn them into the ‘85 Bears over night. He needed Downs and an unbelievable amount of senior talent to build a great defense in year 3 and even then, it was worked like a $2 whore by the only elite offense it saw before the playoff run.

He is a very good coach but the only one I legitimately think is irreplaceable is Hartline.

not only that D has never been their prob. The letting Tom Allen walk for 1.9 million then paying Knowles out the wazzo is weird though
