Carroll vs. Chaminade-Julienne JJHuddle.com was on hand tonight as the Chaminade-Julienne Eagles traveled to Dayton Carroll in the key match-up in southwest Ohio.
After C-J star Javon Ringer rushed for 306 yards in week one, everyone in the state was already talking Mr. Football. Ringer made a valiant effort tonight as the Eagles looked to start the season undefeated.
Carroll started the game with an onside kick that was recovered by the Eagles, but C-J was flagged for a false start on the first play of the game. The Patriot defense held the Eagles in their first possession as C-J was forced to punt the ball away.
The Carroll offense started the night off with a false start as well and turned the ball over on third and eight as Patriot QB Brad Prinz was sacked.
The big play of the first half for the Patriots occurred on the second play after the turnover as DB Lyle Garrison picked off C-J QB Matt Bruggeman and returned it 68 yards for the score.
C-J took over on the ensuing kickoff on their own 48 and marched all the way down the field as Ringer trotted in the end zone from three yards out tying the score with 3:41 left in the first quarter.
C-J struck again in the second quarter as Bruggeman and Sean Allen hooked up for a 71-yrad touchdown reception as the Eagles took a 14-7 lead with 9:04 left before the half.
With less than three minutes left in the half, Carroll was knocking on the door after marching 77 yards down to the C-J five yard line. The Patriots elected to go for it on fourth and two after a timeout only to be called for a false start and had to settle for a field goal with 2:38 left in the half to cut C-J's lead to four.
Carroll failed to recover the ball on the onside kick, and Ringer exploded for a 51-yard TD on the fourth play of the possession to increase the Eagle lead 21-10. Ringer finished off the half with a 38-yard run as the Eagles entered the break with the 11-point lead.
Carroll started the second half of the game with the ball but went three and out. Notre Dame-bound Brandon Harrison returned the ensuing punt 60 yards to put C-J up 28-10 only 21 seconds into the half.
The Eagles added another score in the third on a Bruggeman 69-yard touchdown run after a 79-yard Ringer run was called back.
Up 35-10 in the third with 5:17 left in third C-J controlled the ball the rest of the game as the defense contained the Patriot offense.
With the 35-10 victory, C-J cruises to 2-0 thanks in large part to the big three in Javon Ringer, Brandon Harrison, and Matt Bruggeman.
Ringer finished the night with 211 yards on 28 carries and two touchdowns as Bruggeman completed five of ten pass attempts for 118 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Carroll's Lyle Garrison finished the night with 115 yards on 15 carries and the 68 yard interception for a touchdown.
C-J will travel to Louisville Trinty (Ky.) next week and Carroll will take on Bishop Fenwick.
