Jason Kidd traded to Dallas - finally

This trade isn't finalized yet, and ESPN just reported that the trade has been blocked by Devean George, who apparently has a clause in his 1-year contract that allows him to do that.

NBA roundup: George could scuttle Kidd trade to Mavs

Thursday, February 14, 2008 3:16 AM

Associated Press

Jason Kidd appeared headed to the Dallas Mavericks yesterday -- until Devean George's contract got in the way.
George was supposed to be among the players headed to the New Jersey Nets, but he blocked it by not wanting to give up his "early Bird rights," a provision earned by being in his second year and on his second contract with the Mavericks.
"We're not trying to hold things up or be difficult, but just like teams make tough decisions all the time -- about cutting players or making trades -- they do what's best for their team, and it's my obligation to do what's best for Devean," his agent, Mark Bartelstein, said last night.

League to look at Stackhouse's comments - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

NEW ORLEANS ? As the New Jersey Nets and Dallas Mavericks feverishly worked to convince Devean George to join in the trade for Jason Kidd on Thursday, there suddenly loomed another issue that could obliterate the proposed deal: the loose lips of Jerry Stackhouse.

The NBA will investigate the possibility the Mavericks and Stackhouse violated league rules with a prearranged agreement for the forward to return to Dallas after reaching a contract buyout in New Jersey and sitting out the 30-day waiting period, sources said. Several league sources said the NBA will consider forbidding Stackhouse to re-sign with the Mavericks this season as punishment for public comments the forward made on Wednesday that suggested tampering could have occurred.

i'm sad to be a mavs fan right now :(

i want to see them win a championship but come on lets not give away the keys to the arena just to get one and have nothing left for the future.

You're losing 1 good player. The rest are turds or free agents that you can sign after the season. I'm not sure what's in the Mavs future anyway when you'll have a total of 45, 50 and 55Mil the next 3 years, when only one of them will be under 30.

Now is the time for the Mavs, I'm just not sure that Kidd is the right piece to that puzzle.

Stackhouse is a good 6th man - yes he might get dumped then brought back

Devin Harris is having his best season so far, and is starting to come into his own

Draft picks suck to trade because you never know, granted they weren't going to be lottery picks

but the reason that i'm truly upset is because it appears that cuban is willing to do whatever it takes to win now. i would love to win now but i dont want to win now and then suck for the next 5 years

This whole thing is bullshit if you ask me. Kudos to Mark Cuban for trying every backdoor and loophole he can find. First there's trading away Stackhouse with a gentlemen's agreement that he will be bought out so he can be re-signed. Now the rumor is that the Mavs are looking to sign Keith Van Horn to a trade and cap-friendly contract and include him in the deal. It's a farce. The guy hasn't played in a year and a half. If the NBA is gonna actually allow it they may and well spare us the dog and pony show.

The Cavs should re-sign Ehlo, Daugherty and World B. Free to pseudo-contracts and send them to New Jersey for a half season for Kidd.

The trade was completed today.

Nets Complete Kidd Trade to Mavericks

The eight-player deal, in the making since before the All-Star break, sends Kidd, forward Malik Allen and guard Antoine Wright to Dallas for point guard Devin Harris, center DeSagana Diop and swingman Maurice Ager, plus retired forward Keith Van Horn and Trenton Hassell. New Jersey also gets two first-round draft picks and $3 million.

Cont'd ...

FYI - Kidd apparently has knocked up Hope Dworaczyk (below). Bravo.

It's you. Nobody else would ever think that letting go a guy that wins a couple of MVPs with another team was a bad idea. :tongue2:

I just realized that Nash only makes 11 mil a season. How does he make less than Larry Hughes? A larger question: How stupid is Cuban that he wouldn't resign Nash for what Phoenix gave him, but will trade for 20 mil a year Jason Kidd?

He screwed up.

He only made the Kidd trade after the Lakers stole Gasol.

Larry Hughes picked the perfect time to become a fa. It was the perfect storm. Cavs already lost out on Redd and Allen. Hughes was all that was left and was coming off a career year.

He's Chicago's problem now. Hopefully the Bucks will continue to suck so they will give the Cavs Redd for Wally's expiring contract next season.
