iTunes 2nd library help

I've got an iTunes library for myself. I don't sync it to a device, though I plan to when I get an iphone in the next 3-9 months. That's not the topic, however.

I'm compiling some music for a friend who has an ipod & itunes account on his mac. He has some old cassette tapes, and I have access to their CD counterparts for ripping.

Any advice on how to do this? Do I need to create a separate itunes account? Will there be any complications with syncing this PC with his ipod, which typically syncs with his mac? Do I need to somehow get his itunes account onto this PC?

Ripping the CDs on his mac is not an option, due to distance. He stops by once or twice a year, so that would be the best time to do this.

I think you can do the following:

-Turn off the auto sync option on your itunes
-enable 'disk use' on his ipod (I believe he toggles this on his itunes sync screen before synching at his computer
-enable 'disk use' on your itunes
-once he plugs in to your computer, you can then manually move items onto his ipod using windows explorer.
-note that you will have to say 'no' when it asks if it wants to link his ipod to your computer

I did this with a 'book on tape' from my brother itunes.
I imagine this will work with ripped music
Pretty sure it would not work with music purchased over itunes though...

-Note that next time he syncs with his itunes, it will wipe whatever he moved onto his ipod from your computer...
unless he moves/copies the items off his ipod into his itunes directory using windows exlorer (or whatever the mac counterpart is). This is where the 'enable disk use' comes in. You can treat your ipod like an external storage device. As I said, disabling the auto sync is necessary to avoid wiping the new stuff he got from you.

Just to recap, you will not be syncing his ipod with your computer/itunes, rather you will use his ipod like an external storage device. That's basically the concept, as I understand it.

This is all assuming he has purchased the items through legal channels, of course. :p

Good luck :)
