It's not easy being Orange

BN27 - I think thicker skin is required right now. I didn't see anything in the span of posts you originally referenced that constituted trolling or attacks against you.

Everybody else - remember we are welcoming of other schools' fans here at BP. That goes for the UK fans that are bound to arrive this week.

Finally, this thread is headed onto a tangent that will not be permitted. This thread is for discussion of East Regional action in the NCAA Tournament, not arguments about the validity of split fandom and whatnot. There have been threads for that in the past, and if you want to talk about that please use the search function to dig that corpse back up.

condescending? when it comes to basketball season, syracuse is your team. you've already answered that if ohio state and syracuse were to play each other, the team that you would want to win is not ohio state.

If that's true, I'm even happier to see Syracuse lose. I'm not crazy about "Ohio State football fans" who root for someone else in hoops. I guess I'm funny that way because I didn't transfer from tOSU to another school in the winter.

Fuck Syracuse basketball.
Fuck Duke basketball.
Fuck North Carolina basketball.
Fuck Kansas basketball.

If I left out any other "basketball" schools that some "Ohio State football" fans root for please let me know. I'll gladly add them to the list.

I never said there were any attacks against me. Just weird seeing the hate for a team that has nothing to do with Ohio State......that most Ohio State fans should have probably been rooting for.

Unless Boeheim kicked all of your dogs. Then it would make sense.

[Sarcasm]I only care for Ohio State during football season, when b-ball comes around I'm a Western Kentucky Hilltopper through and through.[/Sarcasm]

Us rooting for Marquette to win makes sense, and it's been explained. For calling someone out for being condescending, you're sure doing a pretty good job of it yourself.

it doesn't.

I root for all upsets unless it's Syracuse or OSU....so that I get. but people saying Cuse is a matchup problem or whatever are either lying or don't know much about Ohio State basketball this year. I don't see how I'm being condescending by explaining that I wasn't claiming people were attacking me.

You were being condescending when you told me who I should "probably" be rooting for.

It doesn't make sense to me that you'd root for Syracuse over OSU in basketball, but I really don't give a shit. I'm not sure why you (or anyone) give a shit about who others root for. It doesn't matter.

Maybe saying you thought people were attacking you was a poor choice of words on my part. From where I sit though, it seems to me you were taking others' reactions to the game rather personally, and other people pounced when you did that.

I don't think either of those things are appropriate in this thread, and I'm thinking that once I come up with a pithy title, this thing's getting split off.

Well, I'll say this.

1. I was rooting against Cuse so that we wouldn't have to worry about their fan presence due to proximity to Newark.

2. I was kind of pulling for Cuse because I think we'd beat them anyway and it'd be fun to look back and say that was a stacked bracket when (in the words of Jake Taylor) we win the whole fucking thing.

I guess if you want to look at it that way. I just know an Ohio State-Syracuse matchup would be easier than either game OSU has played in the tournament so far. Whatever OSU's final score would have been, I would bet money it would have been divisible by 3. That and they would probably be more difficult for NC than Marquette. Saying that's who you should have been rooting for is just me saying it's an easier road to the FF than any other team left in the bracket.

edit: I guess OSU-Marquette would be easier.....but I don't see that as a real possibility. not that it matters. nobody on the left side of the bracket can handle OSU anyways.

edit#2: didn't see your edit. I don't have a problem with who anybody was rooting for really......just the little bit of salt added to my wound that didn't make sense to me. which....looking back at it was just jake being jake.

Like hell it doesn't matter. If you even think about looking at another team with anything an iota short of ill-will or contempt in any sport INCLUDING indoor winter sports then don't even ACT like you give half a shit about any of the sports you pay $50-$100 dollars per ticket to see in person every year. That's just blatant fairweatherism and bandwagontastizing. Downright disgusting every last one of 'em.

It's not that I disagree with what you're saying, I just don't think it matters. There are all types of fans everywhere, and there always will be. What doesn't make sense to me makes sense to someone else. Nothing is going to change that.

I can't buy into the argument that OSU would have an easier time with Syracuse than they did against their first two opponents. Just going to have to disagree and leave it at that.

The NC matchup is something I didn't really take into account while watching the game, but I'm still not sure it would've changed anything. I like seeing upsets.
