Isles win John Tavares sweepstakes

Don't be penurious, donate to the BP Spring Dr.
Good to see.

Hopefully Garth Snow doesn't do anything stupid like trading the pick to the

loser-Leafs.

:slappy: @ Brian Burke saying he's going to somehow get JT. Even Snow is
not that stupid.

Fuck the Flyers.

No way they take the Swede. Sure, he's 6'6" and "skates like the wind", according to Snow, but when your top 2 goal scorers have 18 and 16, you need to go with the scorer.

Now, if someone blew their socks off with an offer for the pick, I would think about it. It won't be the Leafs because Burke said everyone is available, except Schenn. If you expect to get the pick, you better Start with Schenn.

Tampa Bay has to be rock hard, knowing Tavares will most likely go #1, leaving Hedman for them. After getting Stamkos last year, adding Hedman would be the perfect addition to that team.

Some people fully expect Hedman to have a bigger impact than Tavares. How about you JO ?

i think you can never underestimate the stupidity of the wang(and former partner kumar) ownership.

remember this is the team that took dipietro over heatley and gabroik. #1 overall in 2000
or
they traded away a guy named loungo and olli jokinen for oleg kvasha and parrish.
or
they traded for alexi yashin for 2nd rounder (spezza), muckalt and a guy named chara
or
traded connolly and pyatt for peca
those trades lead to a 94 pt season (44 pt increase) while destroying the future and raiding the closet of all prospects.
then
peca for york
signed satan to play with yashin (can you say soft visor wearing euro sissy line?)

dipietros 15yr-67.5m deal
or the yashin deal 10 year 87.5m (since bought out)
hiring ted nolan
hiring and firing of neil smith in the matter of 3 weeks.
then you hire your backup goaltender as gm (like he literally was playing one day, retired then took the job)

the isles have some nice young talent (okposo) but i never underestimate the ability of poor management to overcome all. i wouldnt want that roster, 32.5m in committed cap for next year (25m, 13m, 12.8m, 6.7m, 4.5m).

as far as hedman vs jt. depends on what you have, what you want, etc.

From ESPN's wonderful hockey rumor mill.. although I do like the line "12 labors of Hercules."

Tavares stock slipping?

As the New York Islanders evaluate potential first selections, an independent scouting service has dropped uber-prospect John Tavares back to third in its rankings. Behind defenseman Victor Hedman and center Matt Duchene.

"I've always felt Hedman should be the No. 1 pick," Kyle Woodlief, the publisher and chief scout of Redline Report, told New York Newsday. "The reason we flip-flopped Duchene and Tavares is due to the fact Tavares' effort level has been underwhelming through the first two rounds of the playoffs."

Whether or not the opinion of Redline Report, an organization used by many NHL franchises according to Newsday, will weigh on the Islanders' decision remains to be seen. However, Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke has already let it be known that he will personally undertake the 12 labors of Hercules to land Tavares so perhaps a trade is a possibility if Isles GM Garth Show shares Woodlief's opinion.

Should the Islanders take Tavares, the prospect says he has no intention of holding out, a la Eric Lindros, to avoid playing in Long Island.

Tavares will sell tickets on the Island before he ever steps on the ice. The other two will not. The Isles need a draw, he's their pick.

Incidentally, that's not the first (or second) time that I've read scouts questioning JT's effort. Come to think of it, if he has problems with effort, he may be perfect for the Leafs.
