Thought this was well worth mentioning. A little story about a die hard Buckeye fan and his thoughtful girlfriend.
A really good friend of mine Laura and her boyfriend Dan, before moving back to sunny San Diego from the dreaded DC area have been on an incredible journey the last few months around the world, literally, from Europe to Africa to Asia so far. Well Dan, a HUGE BUCKEYE fan, being from Ohio, got an email from a friend back home who told him that he has a ticket to the Ohio St./Michigan game for him if he could make it. It wasn?t a really serious offer as he knew Dan was on the other side of the planet at the time. It kind of became a little dream for Dan as he and Laura continued traveling.
Well, for those of you that don?t follow college sports, or who have been under a rock the last couple of weeks, the Ohio St./Michigan rivalry is arguable the biggest in college football with TONS of tradition. And this time around it was even bigger because both teams were undefeated at the time and ranked 1 and 2 in the nation respectively. This was a game that could NOT be missed.
So Dan, who like I mentioned was a die hard Ohio St. Buckeye along with his family and had missed all the games of their beautiful undefeated season behind the (probable) future Heisman winner Troy Smith, mentioned it lightly to Laura thinking nothing of it. Laura, a casual sports fan, more a UCLA Bruin fan and alum (UW Huskies have been dominating them recently in bball and even football ? thought I?d mention) realized how huge this game was and knew how much passion her loving boyfriend had for the Buckeyes. So she began thinking. Hmmmm.
So yes she did it! As a gift, she bought Dan a roundtrip ticket from Bangkok to Columbus, Ohio, literally on opposite ends of the planet, so he could attend this rare matchup to claim number one in NCAA D1 Football! Never mind that they?re following a tight itinerary traveling around the world. Never mind that she would travel alone temporarily (safe for sure though). She understood the magnitude of what it would be like at the Shoe with record attendance of over 100,000 in the stands rooting on the Buckeyes to see if they could topple the great undefeated Michigan Wolverines (go blue!) and hand them their first and probably only loss this season to remain undefeated at the #1 spot!! She understood the passion Dan had for the Buckeyes and how great it would be to witness this game in person. And the cherry on top was that Ohio St. won in a great game 42-39.
So I thought this was worth mentioning because we hardly hear about something so great that a lady does for her boyfriend but we usually hear about something that a GUY would do for his girlfriend. And to the magnitude of her generosity was ?priceless? I?m sure in Dan?s book and definitely in mine. Generally speaking, we as guys, get a lot of crap from the females for being so ?in? to sports and many women just don?t understand it. So this kind of gift speaks volumes in what kind of girl Laura is and recognizing how much it means to Dan. I was amazed when I first heard this but knowing her, it actually doesn?t surprise me.
Kudos to you Laura, you?re a keeper. Dan, I know how much you appreciate her. I wish you guys great safe travels and San Diego can?t wait to have you guys back!
This deserves to be reposted and spread around.
