Is it wrong to like a different college for another sport...

My moms is from Kentucky and both of my parents went to school near UK so I've always rooted for the UK basketball team, but OSU comes first. I always pull for my school too except when they play OSU, then I just want a hard fought OSU victory.

You can root for whoever you want to.

I used to be a big Texas Longhorn fan is HS along with OSU, b/c I was a big fan of Cliff Gustafson and the Longhorn baseball program.

I had tons of Longhorn gear but OSU was still my first choice.

Let me tell you personally that it was not easy to rough out the Ayers years and it was becoming apparant Obie was not getting the job done as of late. Not an easy time being a Buckeye basketball fan...now however...
I don't see anything wrong with this statement. The team wasn't getting it done and it was hard for any loyal osu bball fan. Nobody said anything about ayers being blamed for recruiting troubled players. But it is the coach's responsibility to keep his players in line.

I am an Ohio State football fan, and have been since I was very young. When I was about 8 my oldest brother (whom I looked up to very much) went to MSU for college. I have been, since then, a Michigan State basketball fan. I really don't like basketball that much any more, but I like the way Tom Izzo prepares the team, and the attitude they play with. I used to like MSU football, but they talk way too much trash, and generally act like a bunch of jackasses on the field. I like some individual players still, and I still like to see them do well during the season....but when I see a game and they act like Cryami players and talk a bunch of shit and then lose, I like it. When it comes to basketball, I could really care less what happens during the season. I may watch 3 or 4 games, but I mainly watch the tournament. I want tOSU and MSU to make the final four each year, but if they don't I don't feel anywhere near the way I do after a loss to scUM. I also like to see both hockey teams do well, but my main focus is football. If both schools got rid of baseball I wouldn't even notice. I hate baseball.

My alma mater is ONU and Capital. Not very much fun rooting for them. I've bled scarlet and grey (basketball, baseball, football, wrestling, volleyball, whatever) since I was an infant, but it doesn't matter to me who roots for or is a fan of who. Do I like bandwagoners? Can't stand 'em. But a non-bandwagoner may have been a bandwagoner as a kid, and that's how he became a fan- if that makes sense. Also, I root for scUm on many occassions. I always root for the Big11Ten in any non-conference game. In conference games, I always root for the dog because it helps the Bucks out. It isn't wrong in my opinion. People have reasons for the way they do things, and it's none of my business. If some idiot wants to root for my team the year after we won the NC, it's just more noise in the stadium and more money to The University. Doesn't mean I have to be friends with him...

Well first off he couldn't control the players off the court. I don't even remember the exact events, but simpson, macon, and damien bosley all had attitude problems and got into trouble. How many of Matta or Obie'sboys you see doing that stuff? Anderson simply transferred because he saw a better opportunity at Kentucky because our team was falling apart. Trust me bro as someone who went to almost every game, it was rough. I still remember losing to scUM after being up 5 pts with under 30 secs left...I was just sick

Just a note, I believe you are getting Jamie Bosley and Damon Stringer thrown in together there. However, both were excused from the team for off-the-court issues, so it doesn't matter that much. (Damon Stringer has continued to have problems. I believe he was one of the thugs who mugged C.C. Sabathia a year or two ago.) You can also throw Gerald Eakers in there for his issues and several others whose anmes elude me.

Also, I don't see anything wrong with holding Ayers accountable for the issues. One or two incidents is one thing, but when you have the number of incidents in such a short period of time, there is obviously some bigger issue. Also, with Ayers, he had his own incident regarding improper recruiting.

Back on topic: I have no probem with someone being fan of another school in another sport. I couldn't/won't do it, but love is blind. If someone loves OSU football and UK basketball, that's fine for them. Just not for me.

I don't see the problem here either...

Ohio State is my #1 program in every sport. But that doesn't mean I dont like other teams. I root for NC basketball during the tourney, for example. If it was OSU v. UNC there would be no debate who'd I'd be rooting for (Ohio State, of course)

I like Minnesota football too, but I've never screamed in excitement when they score on OSU, and frankly enjoy watching them get punked 45 - 3 more than the rare win. It's easy to like Minnesota for me...1, I'm from there.. and 2 they have a rivalry with the shitschool too... On the other hand, it seem Minny is playing for an axe, a bronzed pig or a jug every weekend of the year.

I was born in Syracuse, New York, where one side of my family is and where i lived for around 9 years. My dad grew up in Pickerington, Ohio (just outside of Columbus for those who don't know). So as a result, I ended up being a fan of both teams, by birth and family, and want each to win. I just always was a huge Ohio State fan for football because i grew up watching them with my dad. But by time basketball season came around, i was so much more exposed to Syracuse basketball and am a big fan of them. I guess you could say that im a bigger OSU fan in football, and a bigger Syracuse fan in basketball. But ive been the same way for 16 years (my life) and if Syracuse ever played Ohio State in the NCAA tourny, I would have to root for Syracuse to win. Same for Ohio State if they played in football. I see nothing wrong with being loyal to both teams because i have been the same way my entire life, and personally, dont really care if you disagree with me because i know for myself that i am not, and never will become what i hate the most : a bandwagon fan.
dude, are you me? are we tibor?

Heh thanks, I combined the two players' names, and both had off the court issues. Thanks to you and jwins for my defense. We had so many off the court issues that we seemed to be losing a guy every year. Those were tough times for many long-time fans

For me it's been about rooting for the local team. I have been an OSU fan all my life and will always root for them, but with the exception of Boston I have always rooted for the local college team. I got my master's degree at Arizona State, so I root for them. I used to work at Duke, so I root for them (this was also my dream school growing up, so I perhaps am a bigger fan for that reason). I worked at the U of Arizona after graduation, so I root for them (yes, even though they are ASU's rivals). I haven't really found a Boston team to root for. Boston College is OK, but I cannot call myself a fan.
