Favre's not done, but he can't carry a team anymore. Ironically, he's much like Elway when he finally won the Super Bowls: perfectly capable of leading a great team, completely incapable of carrying a bad one.
Example: Green Bay is going to suck this year because about 20 of their other starters don't belong in the NFL. However, what if he played for the Bears this year? With a decent running game, Mushin Muhammad, and a pretty good defense nehind him, is there any doubt he could still take a team like that to at least the playoffs?

I agree with the elway comparison, but I would have doubts about him locking up a playoff berth. HE has played badly by himself, independent of his team not being as good. Chicago's defense would be a big upgrade, but I'm not sure that their offense is any better to surround Favre. There's no evidence that he would stop forcing passes (it took him to glory and is now dragging him into retirement)

Fair enough, jwins, maybe he has completely jumped the shark, I don't know. But he did take a pretty mediocre team to the playoffs just last year, so I guess I am of the opinion that, if surrounded by better personnel, and a defense that could bail him out once in a while, he couldn't do the same this year.

I believe the problem here is the pronunciation.
The Packers have terrible Personnel.... period... I would tend to think if you sent Favre to Pitssburgh, they're unstoppable... no knock on ROFLberger but the team carried him.... he's a pretty good QB, and shoudl continue to improve... but most QB's can win the games if they only have to put the ball up 15 times.

GREEN BAY - There he is, on the cover of the October issue of Men's Journal, dressed up as fancy as Brett Favre gets - khakis, casual collared shirt, flip-flops. Inside, as part of the magazine's annual roundup of the 50 best jobs in America, Favre's gig - quarterback of the Green Bay Packers - is ranked No. 1.
Well, at least it was when the story hit newsstands. After an 0-3 start during which Favre has thrown seven interceptions and lost one fumble, ah, not so much.
"Well, 0-3 is not very fun. But, I don't think I'd ever trade it for anything else," Favre said Wednesday, as the Packers prepared for Monday night's game at Carolina. "From the outside looking in, it may not seem like a very glamorous job (right now).
"I'd much rather be 3-0, but it's still a one-in-a-million job. And, it's a tough job; it's tough even when things are going well. But, it's much tougher when things are not going the way you would like - you catch a lot of the heat."
And Favre is definitely catching heat. Not only have numerous NFL analysts - ESPN's Michael Irvin, Steve Young and Tom Jackson most prominently - predicted Favre and the Packers are finished, but Favre admitted Wednesday with heir apparent Aaron Rodgers on the roster, he can envision being pushed out by the team.
"Something has to give at some point, if I decide enough is enough or they do. ... I hope it's on friendly terms, so to speak," said Favre, whose 72.2 passer rating ranks him 21st in the NFL. "Do I think it could happen? Sure it could happen, where the organization chooses to go another route. To some people, it might seem crazy, but when you're dealing with a business and salary caps and things of that nature, the bottom line in this business is winning. (So) sure it can happen.
"Would I be surprised if it happened? No, I wouldn't. Nothing surprises me in this league. I don't think there would be any hard feelings either way. It's about winning. Right now we're not doing that."
While Favre's play has drawn some ire from unhappy fans on the radio airwaves and Internet chats, his coaches defended his play. Coach Mike Sherman said Favre needs to make "crisp throws and decisions" while quarterbacks coach Darrell Bevell said Favre only was downgraded for three decisions he made in last Sunday's loss to Tampa Bay, in which he threw three picks. (Only one of the three bad grades was for an interception.)
"He's a competitive guy, and he knows that he can play better and that there are plays that he can make better," Bevell said. "But you don't really want to dwell on something that's negative. You don't want to say to him, 'You can't turn it over. Don't throw interceptions,' over and over."
Instead, Sherman said he and Favre have had a few heart-to-hearts about the enormity of the challenge facing them.
"I said, 'You know, you run out of the tunnel in New Orleans to lead a team to a Super Bowl victory, it's a lot easier than coming out of the tunnel at 0-2, or now 0-3. Those are the real challenges in life, how we handle this situation,' " Sherman said. "And I think he's handled it very well."
That said, Favre said he doesn't know how a season-long swoon by the Packers would affect his future plans with the team. While he said after Sunday's game he wasn't willing to endure a rebuilding project, he claimed Wednesday not to be thinking about anything past the game Monday night.
"What I've tried to do is just say, 'Go in, have a good time, do your best. Expect to win, but don't put too much on yourself - or your team - and whatever happens, happens,' " Favre said. "I don't know. I really don't know.
"Right now at 0-3 I think most people would say, 'He's gone after this year. They may not even want him back.' Whatever. But I haven't even thought about it really. I mean I'd much rather be 3-0, believe me. But if I was sitting here and we were 3-0 I don't think in the back of my mind I would be saying, 'I'm definitely coming back because we're 3-0.' I'm just going to take it game-by-game and try to get this back on track and see what happens."

He's just trying to do too much, as he almost always has. Hopefully he'll slow down and let Ahman Green take some heat off. If that happens, he'll be fine. I don't think there's any way he would take the field if he thought he wasn't able to perform to a level he can accept.

I give up. This board is too hard to understand.
Green better get going if this team has any chance of finishing above .500. The offensive line is the key to that whole offense and right now they are struggling. There are no holes to run through and Favre has no time to throw. When he a nice opening to run through he's losing the ball. Even with little or no time Favre is going to make those throws because that's all he's ever done. I'd still take him.. win or lose... I guess you have to be a Packer fan to understand.

The Walker injury is the biggest blow IMHO. Donald Driver is an excellent short and mid-range reciever, not a blow by you deep threat. When he tries to play that role, bad things happen sometimes. A Blazer deep would help to strech things out and maybe allow some more lanes for Green to run in. We all know he doesn't hold on to the ball till it is below 20 degrees!!
