I believe he reported the 2009 incident when he hired Smith.

The unknown is when he found out about the 2015 incident.

From his twitter: "...I have always followed proper reporting protocols and procedures when I have learned of an incident involving a student-athlete, coach or member of our staff by elevating the issues to the proper channels. And, I did so regarding the Zach Smith incident in 2015."

Then the only thing he’s guilty of, was his faux pas at media day.

Maybe he gets suspended for your non league games for that?

Serious question--if he reported it up in 2015 as he said he did, for what should he be punished?

If he did what he was supposed to do, he shouldn't face disciplinary action for that one. That's basically what the president is doing by saying "time served." Basically had to give him a two week vacation.
The media flub is the ONLY thing he'd be able to be punished for, unless there's some other contractual stuff about the behavior of his subordinates or such. Unfortunately, it's the risk that put the university in danger that the flub caused, because McMurphy went all full retard on twitter and....well....I'm at work, LOL...

That being said, if the school president is giving him basically two weeks off (paid) and a slap on the wrist for the media flub (and he misses no time other than practice time), I think he's taking that deal.

If he's suspended an entire season and if he did, in fact, report up in 2015 like he claimed, then I would applaud him if he decided to tender his resignation.

Ain't no way they suspend him for an entire season. It'd be a full revolt if that happened, and he WOULD sue, I'd think.

I'd see that. Let Coach Day get practice in clubbin those baby seals.

I think if he reported the 2015 issue then he won't be fired. I think the suspension would be if the committee determined he knew enough about the antics and issues of ZS that he should have fired him years ago. Just my two cents...
