Insight Bowl - Texas Tech 44, Minny 41 (Dec. 29, 2006)

It was 35-7 at the half. Minny drove for a FG in the third, using over 7 minutes at the start of the third quarter to make it 38-7. And then they didn't use any clock on their remaining drives.

With a minute to go, and Tech on their own 12, I wanted Minny to stop rushing 3 and dropping 8. They rushed 3 the entire drive, and Tech got a 52-yard FG on the last play of regulation.

And of course Tech wins in OT without covering the spread. :smash:

Anybody think Mason's job may be in jeopardy after that debacle? Not that the Goophers could do any better...

I don't see how it can't be! This guy has only produced mediocre seasons at best with good talent. (maroney, Barber) No improvment means he has to go.

Glen Mason is the worst coach in DI if you have elite talent...he's good at simplifying stuff (easy game plans, win the turnover battle by not fumbling, etc.) for crappy teams to beat other crappy teams, thus making them mediocre by default. If you have elite talent, however, he'll do everything in his power to get the least out of it...or get the most out of it for a half.

I don't know--Les Miles has made some great talent at LSU look like nothing spectacular over the last few years.

He lucked into a win at the Big house last year. But thats all I can think of.

Yeah, they lost 5 games though...so, despite the fact it is Michigan in name, how important or significant was that victory in actuality? I would argue not so much myself, and I imagine some Minnetonka boosters are seeing it the same way.

Agreed... He can take the OC and DC with him. The offense was anemic and predictable in the 2nd half and the defense rushed 3 down lineman the entire half. Harrell could have had tea and crumpets waiting to pass in the pocket.

lots of talent but they never have a good QB and their defense is inconsistent and spotty. with a good QB that team could compete with ease but nobody is exactly leadership material going through there as a QB.

I'm pissed that Ttech only won by 3. Why couldn't they score a TD in OT to cover?

As far as Mason goes, there are plenty of other NFL guys that will be fired in the next few weeks that could probably do better. They'd be better off without him. IMO

They did score a TD in OT...Minny kicked a FG beforehand.
