That was a great finish... Props go up to Sam Hornish Jr. for bringing the win back to Ohio.

I went to High School with him and have the proud memory of waking him up in accounting class.

congrats Sam.. but really now... how sexy of a name is Sam Hornish...

not like Mario Andretti or AJ Foyt now is it...

Sam Hornish should be the founder of the competition for Perdue or Tyson

A good race to see. Not quite Al Unser Jr. over Scott Goodyear by 0.043 of a second (1992) but exciting no less.

Yeah, the fact that this finish was 1/50th of a second farther apart than 1992's really ruined the excitement for me. :tongue2:

It's good to see Indy really matter again, after all the years of the Indy/CART squabble. With a young Andretti and Danica, they can continue to generate more interest in the race.

dunno... I was there for a dozen races... both in the pits and in the stands.. nothing better that walking around in the infield on a day like yesterday... the scenery can really be good... :wink2:

DIdn't mean it like that... Anyway, I thought Hornish ended up with a car and a half over Andretti. I don't recall exactly, but I thought Goodyear was within 1/2 car of Unser.

I hope what I heard was correct - Indy and Cart are both going to be able to race Indy next year. IRL damn near ruined me for open wheel racing, which I used to really enjoy. Just couldn't ever get in to IRL, despite efforts.... and, after CART wasn't at Indy any longer, my interest slowly faded away.

The '92 race was decided by Little Al besting Scott Goodyear by about half to three quarters of a car. Yesterday Hornish beat Marco by about a car and a half.

I agree with the comments that the split in the 90's almost ruined the greatest race in the world. I have went to the race pre split and after and the difference was noticeable. People forget that open wheel racing was as big as NASCAR is today. I have thought however the race has just started to gain momentum the last few years as Penske team came back and then Danica and now Marco. I wonder if it will hit the craziness of the 80's. Turn one in the infield was really crazy (before they put bleachers up) and I saw it all. Girls baring all, even witnessed people having intercourse in the middle of a big mud puddle once. They have really cleaned up the infield since those days.

I agree...just giving you grief about the .043 vs. .063 comparison. I was excited - I yelled out Hornish's name as he made the pass. And I think that the lead probably changed hands nearer to the finish line this time, since Hornish really blew by Marco, so this one could be looked at as being a more exciting finish.

But anytime they're battling for the lead on the last lap, it's a great race.

Thanks for that video link.

I'll stick with my opinion that this year's race was a more exciting finish. An actual pass on the last straightaway, compared to an attempted pass that didn't happen by most of a car length.

What a great job by the director, switching to the view from behind the checkered flag, blocked by some guy holding a sign. :tongue2:

It was also interesting that the guy in third place in the middle of the last lap was the leader's father in both races.
