Tom Allen believes Indiana can win Big Ten championship

Indiana football is off to a hot start this season. Tom Allen’s program is 3-0 and ranked No. 10 in the Associated Press Top 25, and owns upset wins over Penn State and Michigan. The Hoosiers have used a stout defense combined with solid quarterback play from Michael Penix Jr. to become what many consider the second-best team in the Big Ten East division.

Is being second in the division enough for Allen? It doesn’t sound like that. His program has taken the next step, and he’s hungry for more.

“I believe we can win the Big Ten here,” Allen told ESPN. “I thought that we had the support administratively when I got here, and that was a big reason I even came. ... That hasn't always been the case in Indiana ... football has always been kind of on the lower rungs behind some other things. I get it, basketball is a big deal in this state. I'm born and raised in Indiana, I understand it and I love basketball. I want us to win a national championship in basketball. But I think we can give you both.”

If the B1G Championship is to Indiana as Jessica Alba is to me, then Ohio State = the restraining order.

Until Ohio State beats them in 2020, he isn't wrong.
But (knock on wood) I don't see anything short of a COVID cancellation stopping Ohio State from beating Indiana. Penix made a valiant effort to beat Penn State (I still think he was short, but I like it better this way), and he may do the same against Ohio State. But that 2-point conversion won't help much when they're down 28.

I hope Indiana fans think this week's cancellation is a conspiracy to give Ohio State a bye week before playing them.

If genius James Franklin would have successfully instructed his RB to go down at the 2-yard line after getting the first down with about 1:42 left, the Nits would have taken knees and the game would have ended in regulation.

Indiana’s total offense for the game if it had ended that way: 131 yards.

Yeah, I'll say if Indiana played Penn State 10 more times this year, Penn State would win 9 (or more) of the games. Penn State lost the game to Indiana more than Indiana beat Penn State.

Still it is all about the match up and motivation to play on a particular day. Ohio State can't take Indiana for granted they need to show up ready to play.
