in the majority with college coaches

I guess I'm in the minority here, a 4.8 40 time is a big red flag for me with a RB recruit. (I'd be in the majority with college coaches but that's not the point.) If I get to choose, all else being equal, I'll give you your 4.8 RB that averages 7 per carry against bad competition and I'll take the 4.4 guy that averages 5 against good competition. I could deal with like a 4.6 if the stats are that impressive but 4.8 is way too slow for me.

It's already been pointed out that most sites have Smith's 40 as a 4.5 though, so I'm not referring to him.

If you can rush for almost 300 yards in a game, I don't care if your Elmer Fudd but you edit deserve some respect and recognition.

40 times are so overrated. If he was a smaller back I could maybe see your point, but he's a big guy. I welcome the idea of a bigger, more physical back coming to town. He will probably shave some time off of that by the time he sees the field. I guess I tend to trust the coaches on this one, they probably know a little more about him than you or I do.

You want more?

RB Kenny Hilliard, junior... offers: LSU, Da U, Tenn, ND. 40 Time? 4.86

LB Corey Nelson, big time junior recruit, his time last year? 4.77. This year? 4.58 and a filthy offer list.

WR Darius White.... 5* wr. Last year? 4.85. This year? 4.6

RB Michael Ford... ran a 4.69 as a senior. Still rated a 5*. Timed later at 4.49.

WLB Marquis Simmons... ran a 4.75 as a senior. #7 OLB & USC verbal.

S Eddrick Loften... ran a 4.90 as a junior. 4.55 as a senior. OU verbal.

RB Washaun Ealey... ran a 4.78 as a senior. later timed at 4.62. UGA verbal.

DE James Boyd... ran a 4.8 as a senior. USC still took him.

All of this is besides the point that 40 times are extremely overrated for running backs.

Guess Indiana high school football must really suck, seeing as Smith ran for about 280 yards and 4 TDs with that 4.8 speed... :roll1:

I don't buy that 4.8 40 for a second... and FWIW he's listed as a 4.5 on Bucknuts.
