Underclassmen shine in Pittsburgh

A 5-foot-8, 158-pound rising sophomore, Ross Douglas of Avon (Avon, Ohio), was another underclassman that turned heads on Saturday.

"I haven't seen too many freshman perform better at a Nike Combine over the years than Douglas did today," said Greg Biggins of ESPN RISE. "He ran back-to-back 4.5 40s, jumped 33 inches in the vertical and has a chance to develop into a very special player in a few years."

Don?t be surprised if a highly touted quarterback from Oregon makes his way to Northeast Ohio, likely Stark County, and plays football next fall.
Kyle Kempt, a 6-foot-5, 200 pound quarterback at Aloha High School, was offered a scholarship by Stanford Head Coach Jim Harbaugh before he ever took a snap as a high school quarterback.

Kempt?s father, Mychal, is a vice president for North Canton-based Diebold and has been transferred to Ohio. The Kempts have toured a couple of high schools in Stark County.

Kempt?s older brother, Cody, is the starting quarterback at Montana State. Cody Kempt transferred to Montana State from Oregon, where he was backed up on the depth chart after an injury. He was, at one time, the Ducks? starting quarterback.

Kyle Kempt has worked with renowned quarterback coach Bob Johnson, who runs a QB school in California.

OREGON QB BACKGROUND

Yes, it was a bad day recently when Oregon high school football coach Chris Casey learned he would be losing one of his best up and coming players. Casey, head football coach at Aloha High School in Beaverton, Ore., confirmed that freshman quarterback Kyle Kempt is coming to Northeast Ohio.

Kempt’s father, Mychal, has been transferred to Diebold’s home office in Green. Mychal Kempt played football at Montana State, where his older son, Cody, is the starting quarterback. More on him later.

As far as Kyle Kempt, he is 6-foot-4 and ranges between 185 and 200 pounds depending on the report.

Casey said Kempt never played varsity football last fall. Instead, he was the starting quarterback for the freshman team and played very well. He was brought up for home junior varsity games and played a “series or two” in those games. Casey put him on the varsity roster for the playoffs, but Kempt did not play in a game.

“He’s never played varsity football,” Casey said. “We had a junior and a senior at quarterback, and they were both pretty good.”

The senior, Casey said, is 5-foot-8, a good high school player but not a Division I college QB. The junior is about 5-10, athletic and could be a potential D-I recruit in a spread offense but is more likely to be recruited as an athlete.

“I can’t look into a crystal ball and tell you who would have started,” Casey said. “We would have had three kids, the junior, another junior varsity kid and Kyle compete for the starting position.”

STANFORD OFFER

This is interesting: Casey said he could not confirm that Kempt has been offered a scholarship by Stanford. He said he hasn’t talked to the Stanford coaches, and he has seen nothing on paper. Kempt attended Jim Harbaugh’s QB camp last summer and confirmed to a recruiting Web site he was offered by Stanford. I think the offer is legitimate.

It isn’t unusual for a freshman or sophomore to be offered without the paperwork.

“I believe he can be a Division I quarterback,” Casey said. “He’s 6-foot-4 as a freshman. He has really good arm strength. He’s a cerebral player, a 4.0 student. He’s a good citizen who comes from a good family. His mom and dad were good athletes at Montana State.

“He’s a guy if he continues to improve with all the things he has — size, arm strength, good throwing motion, a quick release — he could be a Division I player.”

RECRUITING PRESSURE

When Kempt made news last summer being offered by Stanford before his freshman season, it added a great deal of pressure. Now he is likely headed to a high school football hotbed — no offense, Oregon — and that won’t lessen.

Casey seems to be somewhat protective of the young QB. Rightfully so.

As for Aloha, it went 7-4 last year and lost in the first round of the playoffs to the eventual state champ, Casey said. He also said Aloha plays in the biggest league in the state with the best competition. Aloha ran a pro-style offense.

Casey would not comment on the family’s move, other than to confirm the family informed him they were moving to Ohio because of the transfer.

Furture prospects

Moeller has some really talented freshman. They have 5 or 6 future athletes but these really are there studs. #14 Logan Kelleher, #7 Spencer Iacovone and # 64 Alex Gall really stood out. Logan Kelleher is under sized but will grow. Kelleher is quick and a sure tackler. He can play anywhere and is a game breaker. The sky is the limit for him. Spencer Iacovone is a solid quarterback with a good arm. Iacovone will be a good quarterback at the next level.Alex Gall is a big and physical offensive linemen. He's about 6 foot 3. Don't be suprised if they make some noise at varsity this year. Some other good talent is Kevin Milligan from St.X. Ohio is loaded with talent.

Argeros "Ducie" Turner RB/DB




GREEN -- Freshman running back Argeros Turner rushed for 169 yards and two touchdowns as Copley routed Green 31-7 at Memorial Stadium in Week 7.

Turner had 133 yards on the ground in the first half.

Turner rushed for 973 yards and 11 tds on the season including a kickoff return for a score he was all league and all district first team as a freshman. He is 5'10 180 and has been timed in the 4.5's he made it to Districts as well in the 100m dash running a 10.96 he honestly is one of the top 5 rb's in the state in his class there are alot of articles on him online but there was to many to post!


TALLMADGE -- The Suburban League freshman football player of the year is hands down Copley's Argeros Turner.

The first-year running back ripped off another 150-yard rushing game and scored two touchdowns as the Indians exploded in the third quarter to beat Tallmadge 20-12

By The Bank....Lists himself at 5'10", 165 lbs. Hasn't attended any camps or combines yet due to running track in the summer. Says he has been timed at 4.40 seconds in the forty and electronically timed at 10.8 in the 100. Has interest in Florida, Oregon, Ohio State & Notre Dame and others.
