Screw Blue
in-laws left about 2 hours ago, and i'm just now calmed down, i'm sure that has something to do with the 3 jack and coke's that i've enjoyed since they left.

i fancy myself a very good cook, and the kitchen is my domain. my mother in law insisted on brining the turkey, after a week of begging/fighting - she won. so i asked her to bring some of the pan drippings so that i could make gravy.

i was outside with the dog when she came, so she goes into MY KITCHEN and starts making her lumpy runny gravy. i came in and not only was the gravy started, but it was a giant mess. (i keep the kitchen clean as i work so there is less clean up) - she had filled the pan to nearly the top, then dumped the flour in and (like most old broads) stirred like she would die if she stopped.

when i told her that all she needed to do to keep the lumps out was slow down and stir in a figure 8 motion, she scoffed and gave some bullshit about how she has been making gravy since i was in diapers, and me not giving a shit about hurting feels - i fired back with yes and its just as lumpy as those diapers of mine.

she marched out of the kitchen and then wouldn't talk to me the rest of the day (poor me) - wife wasn't real thrilled with me, but the father in law and my wife, loved the gravy that i made after the MIL left the cooking to me.

aren't in laws fucking great!

Depending on how old she is, she probably mostly just wants to feel she is contributing. Let her make something without interference, than make your own version. It's more satisfying to see people eat more of what you made than what she made and it gets the point across without making the spouse mad.

 Ok, understood. I'm not a huge "don't make waves" person myself to be honest. One of the first Thanksgivings with the husband's family I was helping to clean up and had assisted to prep some food at my mother in law's direction (her kitchen). As I was doing after dinner clean up the grandmother I had JUST MET came in and said "You cook and clean? With your good looks you will make a great wife!" To which I said, "yea and I'm smart too so...I got that going for me as well."

She hasn't come to MY house for any holiday YET. :wink2:

When did being smart start mattering when it comes to good looking women?

It doesn't. If that's all you want to be. It was more of a commentary on her expectation of me being a "traditional" housewife and me then letting her know that wasn't at all acceptable.

My MIL is the best. She thinks I walk on water, and if my wife tries to say one negative word about me her mom will jump her [censored].

Drives the Mrs crazy.

Now, to be fair, I am the youngest daughter's hubby, and the two older sisters married (several) losers. So as I do not cheat on my wife, I have a job, i don't gamble all of my money away, and I'm not mentaly ill (well.....diagnosed) - all I have to do is breath and not fall down and she thinks I am the best thing since sliced bread.

I fell into a wildly reduced expectations thing here, and I barely meet them....but I meet them. :banger:

Ah! It's the most wonderful time of the year! :tongue2:
We had Thanksgiving dinner with friends and we loved every second of it!
I highly recommend it!

OCBW is probably right on the importance of MILs/elderly wanting to feel needed. Good incite.

So you and the wife spent the holidays alone?
