IN HONOR OF TRADITION
Tradition - 1. The transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation 2. A long-established custom or belief that has been passed on in this way.
This Saturday we honor tradition of over 100 years of playing on the gridiron against TSUN. No two schools when they face off have a more storied history than these two programs. Some teams may have played against each other longer, some teams may have their own unique and special rivalries, some teams may make the claim of the greatest rivalry in sports, but when all is said and done, there is only one match-up that is called ?The Game?.
?The Game? is not only the biggest rivalry in the B1G Ten, nor is it merely the biggest rivalry in College Football, it is the biggest rivalry in ALL of sports. It is called ?The Game? because it is the game of all games and nothing comes close to the passion, emotions, tradition, hatred, respect and rivalry of these two storied programs.
Coaches like Schmidt and Yost, Crisler and Brown, Woody and Bo, Tressel and Carr only adds to the uniqueness of this historic match-up. Throw in names like Janowicz, Horvath, Cassidy, Harmon, Griffin, Smith, George, Woodson, and Howard and it sets this game apart from all others. A total of ten Heisman trophies have been awarded to these two programs. That?s more than any other rivalry in College Football. More than Harvard vs Yale, more than Alabama vs Auburn, more than Texas vs Oklahoma, more than USC vs UCLA. No other rivalry even comes close.
In addition, is there any two stadiums, in the great storied tradition of football rivalries, that combined can hold a total of about 215,000 fans? The BIG House. The Horseshoe. Nuff said!!!
In the same light there are no two greater fight songs played on any given Saturday. FIGHT ACROSS THE FIELD and Hail to the Victors have to be ranked as classics. There is no greater feeling when Fight Across The Field is played after a Buckeye touchdown. Likewise, there is no worse feeling when Hail to the Victors resounds after a Maize and Blue score. Both of these songs are loved and hated with an unmatched intensity.
Yes, this Saturday we once again honor tradition. Tradition of the greatest rivalry in all of sports. At 12 p.m. in Ann Arbor M*ch*g*n the most celebrated sporting contest will occur and bragging rights for the year will once again be established. Scarlet and Gray vs Maize and Blue. The coaches are new, and the players are mostly new, but ?The Game? will always be the same. Bragging rights are at stake. Pride is on the line. There is no game that is MORE important in any given season. WE MUST BEAT TSUN!!!
LET?S GET IT ON!!!
GO BUCKS!!!
