I just received word today that I've been accepted to a four-week Summer Programme at Oxford University in Wycliffe House!

It's a seminar called Christianity and Culture in which I'll be studying the social and intellectual history of Christianity and speciallizing in field seminars covering the Protestant Reformation and the role of Christian Theology in the 21st Century.

Can't wait to go punting on the Thames, drink in the Eagle and Child pub where Tolkien and Lewis used to meet and read their writing to each other, or study in the Radcliffe Camera!

Fantastic, be aware that in addition to everything being overpriced, the rate of exchange is currently not very good (which makes everything even more expensive), i.e. 1 British pound = 1.7324 U.S. dollar. Take lots of money. Unfortunately, I do not believe that they accept vdollars!!!

Other than the cost, England is a great county to visit; there are lots things to see and do, they actually like Americans, and they speak our language (actually the language is theirs). In addition to your studies, I know you'll have a great time touring the country.

Congrats! I spent three years in the UK and loved it. Oxford seemed like a fun town, I visited once. Be sure to visit Billy Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford-Upon-Avon. They have day tours there that are a lot of fun.

England is fun to visit. Make sure you bring warm clothes and a raincoat. The exchange rate has been hovering between 1.7 and 1.88 for about a year now so things will be expensive. The food here sucks but there are decent places to eat. Make sure you try Hobgoblin and Bombardier. Two very good beers. Aabotts Ale and Boddingtons aren't bad and if you like Darker beers try John Smith's Bitter. Movies are kind of behind the states. Two for the Money just came out over here last week. Sky is thier television over here. It's ok. Try to learn the slang. The Brits really appreciate when we try and use thier terminology. Enjoy your time over here. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

This will be my second trip to England, I did an administrative internship at Lancaster University (just south of the Lakes District) during the summer of 2001. When I was over there last time, I was only able to spend one day at Oxford, which consisted of a two-hour walking tour of the university and then my own exploration of a couple of the colleges. I'm definitely looking forward to experiencing more of the city.

Unfortunately, unlike last time I was there, travel is discouraged during the programme. There are two built-in field trips, one is to the Cathedral at Canterbury and the other has not yet been determined, but other than this the Programme recommends traveling either before or after the four weeks due to its intense studying demands. I'll try to spend at least a day in London since I wasn't able to see everything I wanted last time I was there.
